...actually no, I just checked and all he did was pump £800 million into a foreign football, yes football club !! Imagine what the likes of Cancer Research or Famine Relief could do with that sort of cash - it is indeed a very sick and depreesing world we live in

Sheikh Mansour targets clubs that have not won much it seems. He is the chairman of Al Jazira who won UAE Pro-League : 2011 and UAE President's Cup : 2011.

They had never won these in the history before. Shows you that you can just buy success. To be honest until FFP comes in you won't see any youth team Man city players play for Man city. 1st team.

Gave £800m to a struggling foreign football club - sounds very philanthropic indeed Mansour and Abramovich - the two great humanitarians of the modern age - I salute them !

Clearly missed the point, so I'll make it easier for you to understand:

1) He is a very, very rich man. £800m spent still leaves a lot of money left over. Money which can be spent philanthropically. I don't know which charities he supports or how often, and neither to you. In other words, just because he spent £800m on a fotball club doesn't in any way at all mean that he hasn't given the equivalent or more to charity.

2) The Third Sector (charities, NGOs etc) is entirely dependent on the private sector. If people were not making money, investing in it, creating business etc, then there would be no capital from which charities could benefit. Football clubs are among the most active charitable cuases in their communities. So, £800 investment in a football club creates a more successful and higher profile club = better resources = better trained staff = better community programmes. City's community programme is among the best there is.

I do know that City, as a club gave nearly £500,000 to local charities in the last financial year.
