He started his season under massive pressure, he had high standards to live up to, but to his credit him it's only positives from me so far.
It can't be easy performing to such high standards set by the man he replaced, but Baines must be worried about ousting Brendan when he returns.
Browning had a mixed bag last night, but played in a strange system and wasn't given great protection by Gerard.
Brendan's review...

"We stand to only lose £4m"
What're you on about there Arouna?
Stones has 4 years left on his contract. We kept him this summer but I can see him going in the summer or the one after that. He certainly won't be running it down and leaving on a free imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So he will leave this coming summer.....or the summer after
Pundits and the media claimed he would leave in the last window. So I believe club and manager that he is not for sale
So we will only lose our fee to Barnsley.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wasn't it mentioned that the prime reason we didn't sell Stones was down to the lateness of the bid that Chelsea put in thus leaving Everton not enough time to find an adequate replacement.
It was a great coup to turn away Chelsea and their millions, but we would do well to keep him in transfer windows to come.Being a realist if he has a good season he will be hard to keep hold of,if he plays for England and plays well in the Euro's then it's going to be damned hard to keep him

I think the club achieved its aim in not selling to Chelsea during the last window and I think we're good for this season. However, next summer, if a club comes to us early in the window with a serious offer I can see us negotiating and selling. If nothing else I am not aware that Stones has rescinded his transfer request so the belief has to be he wants to move onto a title contender at some point and I don't think the economics of the club can stand to lose that potential £30m+ next summer.
The important thing to look for is what happens with his contract. Currently he is on a reported £30k a week with 4 seasons remaining, and clearly he should be on more in relation to others at the club. So, will he sign a new deal with us that bumps it up to parity with the higher owners? If he does that then he will be tying himself in for a longer period of time which then rules out an option of sitting out his contract and going somewhere on a free.
Definitely not a simple case of the club saying he is not for sale and so that is it in my opinion, if nothing else didn't they say we won't be selling him in this window? Thus giving them the latitude to sell at a later date possibly?

He can put in as many transfer requests as he likes, the club is within its rights to reject them as they did.
We could accept an offer and agree to sell the player, but that doesn't mean he will want to leave for that club either. It is very complicated, however Woods, Bill and Martinez have stood firm and have told everyone who wants to listen that he is not for sale

We'd all like Stones to stay but unless we finish in the top 4, maybe top 3 this season and get CL football he is off.

He is off?
Only if the club wish to sell him and he agrees to the move. But as his transfer request was rejected, I would expect the same stance again from the club come January and next summer.

You're a confident man, I wish I could be as well but I strongly suspect he would be off for a decent price next summer if we're not having a tilt at the CL next season or we've picked up a trophy.

The club made a stance after the manager had sai he was not for sale and under contract. Now the board can't go back on this stance and keep the fans on side if they fold in January/summer

They were very specific though, they said Stones is not for sale in this window, Martinez even expanded on why when he said it was too late in the window when they received the last bid and Stones put in the transfer window. It is not that much of an about face to sell him next summer given that sadly I think, but we shall have to wait and see.

the way the English teams in doing europe so far I would say we will have to finish top 3 to see Stones in an Everton shirt past this season

I said all summer stones wouldn't be off this year.
The reason being this season we can bed in the likes of Galloway, browning and Mori and so if/when he does go we won't even need to buy to replace him.
Personally I think after this season and the euros unless we finish in a champions league place he will want to go. If he does fair enough to him, he deserves to play at that level.
The advantage we have now is that clubs know we won't sell cheap and we won't sell late. Unless a high bid (around £40-45m) comes in he won't be going imo.
I can't see us selling in January for the same reasons martinez stated at the end of this window. I.E too late, no replacements etc.
