Bayern Munich - Are They All That?

Clearly Bayern have great individual players and have achieved great things in the Bundesliga (and in Europe historically), but I couldn't help thinking last night that their football seems a bit passive with the endless pointless passes.

Some credit of course must go to the Goon-ers for winning, but Bayern played right into Arsenal's hands. No doubt all the Goon-ers will be cock-a-hoop about beating the "best team on the planet", but I think there are better teams in Europe at the moment and Arsenal's "achievement" will soon be put into perspective when they come up against a more aggressive team in Europe.

Your thought please.

Bayern are the best team in Europe at the moment but don't think for a moment that result would have been the same say if it was a Quarter Final.

Bayern didn't get out of 3rd gear last night. Arsenal will get a major doing in Munich

Now that is more complete domination.

I won't hide the fact I was supporting Bayern last night, like any Spurs fan.

However I too was immensely disappointed with them as a side. Pep has driven home his possession-based philosophy to such an extent that they no longer take chances, even when they had the numbers to do so.

I don't think you can criticise Arsenal or mock them for their celebrations in winning. I know I'd have been coc-a hoop if it had been Spurs. Whilst Bayern weren't at the races, part of that was down to Arsenal realising their limitations and lining up to ensure they were more difficult to exploit. Their attacking play on the counter was excellent and they thoroughly deserved the win.

I don't think I criticised or mocked Arsenal in my OP. I just said that the result will be put into perspective when they play against a team that is not so passive. Today it's "Arsene in" but if they fail to qualify for the knock out stages it will be "Arsene out" again, regardless of last night's "achievement".

Barcelona are not in the debate without Messi being fit to start every game.

Real / Bayern / PSG and Barcelona with Messi are teh top boys.

It's a really good win for Arsenal, but they have beaten them away from home recently too so not a shock - we know Arsenal have it in their locker

The problem always seems to be doing it without the backs to the wall for Arsenal though. If they had taken 6pts from the first two games you just know Munich would have won last night
