I know we have only conceded 8 goals and have a solid back 4 for once but we are still defensively inept. It's more to do with the team as a whole. Take today's game. We relied on luck. Two good Gomis chances that if it was Costa or Aguero would have been converted. We play a high line and still have not worked out how zonal marking works. Against Bayern I thought we had it sussed but today v Swansea we rode out luck. Too busy still trying to kill off a game instead of waiting for a counter. It is exciting as its end to end stuff but also can be our undoing. I still think we need a strong DM. I like Coq but he is not a powerful player. We need a big powerful DM like Vieira or Keane. A player who can scare the opposition and protects our defense. Unless we change tactics on how we defend, which we can do, we will not win the league. Also I liked Campbell today. May not have looked great up field but did a lot if defensive work.

For now, we've got Cech one of the best keeper around. Yes, a DM would be good addition to the squad.

Agree with the OP, our defense could still improve a lot. We do get caught a lot when our fullbacks press up. Can blame Coq, best defensive player in the team.

We are an attacking team. Either we have our full backs pushing up helping with attack thus leaving counter attacking risks, or they sit back and we become a defensive team. Its one or the other

It's more of people knowing we are a attacking team, so there will be chances for other teams, but our defence has improved a lot recently anyway so to pick holes in it on a day we won 3-0 is probably not the best decision.

He came to a very wrong conclusion, that is the problem. He stated Vieira, a box to box midfielder, or Keane, again box to box, is what we need instead of Coquelin.
Coquelin is not the problem, he is very good at what he is in the team to do.
The issue is potentially Cazorla - where a box to box, powerful type like, well Vieira or Keane, could be better suited to certain games than a possession dependant midfielder like Cazorla.

To be honest despite Arsenal beating us 3-0 I think Arsenal got weaker this season overall. Papering over cracks most of this season imo.
