God I hate this joke of a show
I used to really like it but these days I prefer my own used bog paper
Some of you may be asking....What the..F is squid getting upset about
Well this show is about the BBC advertising the very few sports they cover these days , recently they lost the rights to show Horse Racing and Cricket there has always been cricketers and jockeys shortlisted but for some strange reason Jimmy Anderson and Joe Root do not appear in the shortlist despite being the main reason for us beating the Aussies and getting to be right at the top of the world rankings in Bowling an Batting
If you don't play Tennis , Rugby , Athletics or any of the minor sports that the BBC cover then you can forget it
Oh and what the hell does Sports Personality mean , Sports Achievements I could live with
Right RANT over
Sports personality of the year

Wrongly named without doubt but I still enjoy it.
I don't agree with your argument that it's centred on live BBC sports, otherwise why would Fury feature? I'm a cricket fan and think it's fairly obvious why Root and especially Anderson weren;t picked - one swallow does not make a summer. Fantastic victory over the Aussies sure, but this is not the formidable Aussies of old. We've also gone on to lose test series' to Pakistan and draw with West Indies and New Zealand. Probably best to not even mention the Cricket World Cup!
Each of the nominees are either World Champions in their sports or from teams where their contributions lead to success/previously unseen achievement e.g. Bronze.
Many prefer the conspiracy angle but there's none to be seen here.

Don't think it is obvious why Root wasn't in at all! He is the top test run scorer in cricket this year as well as number one batsman in the world! Think he would have been a perfect choice ahead of the lady from the women's football team who actually only finished 3rd!

And if you are going on Personality Root would probably win hands down as the rest bore the poo out of me!

I don’t believe the awards themselves are focussed on live BBC sports, however the content of the programme most certainly is. Which is primarily due to (footage material) rights costs from broadcasters.

As I said a few posts further down, I would've probably put Root in but I can understand why he isn't there. He's also not Number 1 batsman in the world right now (that's Steve Smith)
Also can you imagine the outrage if Englands mens team came 3rd in a World Cup and a player nominated for overall player of the tournament wasn't on the SPOTY list!

Joe root is equal number one with smith as per the last rankings but how root was outright number one before the Pakistan test series

If the yard stick is success then I would understand if a member of the men's England team didn't get in if they finished third!
You have to also look at the odds for the indicator of which was the bigger success and England women finishing 3rd was better odds than England beating Australia

Root could arguably taken Andy Murrays spot as well because in all honesty they did exactly the same job of been the standout performer for a team.

If I am honest Rutherford should probably win the entire thing as he is the dominant force in his sport and he has beaten everyone in front of him!
Fury has not beaten everyone in his weight division, Jessica Enis Hill hasn't won all, Lewis Hamilton has to put a lot of credit down to the car, Murray failed to win several majors, the women's football team despite a great effort have won nothing and Kevin Sinfield has won a domestic treble but not conquered the Rugby World Cup or won against the winner of the NRL.

Funny enough, Rutherford is my preferred winner. I can't see it happening, but he has established beyond doubt now that he is the best in his field at what he does on the biggest stages.

It is a load of shytte these days, but I hope Jess Ennis wins it
