A lot of credible sources starting to reveal this news. Defensive midfielder from Basel. Very interesting purchase! In a position we need bodies in.
If true it's nice to see us do business early. Hopefully can make a contribution to our title hunt.

Never heard of him but if he's less than 6' tall, I don't want him

apparently he terrorised Spurs in the UEFA cup tie, so he's got my vote

He's apparently 5'11", but Le Coq is only 5'10".

What you need to know:-
He's 5'11
More of a box-to-box player (will need to switch his game up)
Great long shot on him
Good long distance passer
Up for a battle
He's a decent player and better than Coquelin from a technical point of view but as a defensive destroyer not as good.
His attributes and physique seem suited to the PL but for the position we may require him in, he'll need to adapt his game.
I'm not sure how good he is a recycler of the ball, passing between the lines, general distribution is to know if he could succeed as DM next to Ramsey for example.
He's a solid addition to the squad if the deal is concluded however. Can't complain at £5m

Copied comment :
"First off I'm a United fan, I'm also Egyptian and a fan of the Egyptian premier league. I've been watching El-Neny since his days with Arab Contractors and the u20 National team and the Olympic team, and of course with Basel. The boy was on Bayern's radar prior to him going to Basel and honestly has developed really well there especially in the last couple of seasons. He's performed really well against top English sides, played in wins against Spurs and Chelsea (sorry in advanced for calling Spurs a top side). He's a work horse, covers a lot of ground. Last year in the champions league up until basel were knocked out he covered more ground than any other player in the champions league. He has a pretty good long shot on him and good passing range. Yes he is a box to box but he tends to bomb forward more when the team is missing some attacking flair. He's stronger than he looks but at the same time he's no Yaya Toure obviously. I think he's a good buy especially if you guys are getting him for the rumored price. I know most of you guys think he'll just be a back of for le Coq, but I could definitely see him competing with him for a spot in the starting 11, but you never know how quick he'll assimilate to the league. In an ideal world he'd blaze the league become your captain and be sold to us . Cheers lads.
Edit: he's also scored 6 goals this season so far, not too shabby for a DM if I have to say so myself."
Seems to be typical Wenger's shrewd signings!
Best of luck to the lad

Sounds like sort of player we need. Solid reliable squad player and back up.

We will need one more addition
Cazorla out for the season, Coq still out for 2 more months and Wilshere at least another 6 weeks

To be fair, Basel are a decent team so if he is a regular I am sure he will be a solid addition

Doubt we will sign anyone else, unless we get someone in on loan
