Ever heard of him. Is he good enough to challenge Coquelin for a starting spot or just a back up?

posted on 26/12/15

As a youtube scout I'd say back up for now.

Lacks Coquelin's tenacity, if you ask me.

He reminds of Witsel (a player I've wanted for ages) he has a good engine and decent physique. His long range passing is tidy and a very good shot on him from distance.

I'm assuming Wenger will want to convert him to a DM which will be interesting as he's someone who likes to be involved (pass & mover)

If he's converted I'm curious to know how good his general passing between the lines are.

Off-the-ball he's fairly tenacious and at 5'11 brings a good physique

Fantastic. Never understood the hype of a "Worldclass DM". By design they are meant to do the dirty job. The lower their reputation the more they are willing to put their body on the line.

At least now, like Gabriel, he will be patient and wait for his chance while naturally getting better. Carvalho won't.

How about Besic as back up? will cost more no doubt but knows the league so settling period will be minimal.

failing that lets bring in Motta he may be at a better club but money talks

Never heard of him but I am buzzing.

I like Besic but don't think he's what we need. He's a bit wild.... we need a composed figure next to Ramsey has to be a tidy player convinced Elneny can provide that.

My biggest concern really is whether he can build play or not that's vital for us

Only 70 on FIFA. Don't want him

If he can do a job, get him in. Flamini has done well but there is always an injury waiting around the corner with him and I don't wanna rely on Chambers/Arteta

Yeah we don't really need top quality there. Won't relalistically get much better than Coquelin. Just need a solid reliable back up who can do the defensive duties well.

Whoscored has him as basels best player this season

Is this guy a regular for Basel?

^ Yep

I watched this guy play vs Fiorentina, he was the best player on the pitch by a mile and scored a wondergoal to win the match.

Apart from that I don't know anything about him

What are his attributes? Never heard of him

Never heard of him but if he's less than 6' tall, I don't want him

apparently he terrorised Spurs in the UEFA cup tie, so he's got my vote

He's apparently 5'11", but Le Coq is only 5'10".

What you need to know:-

He's 5'11
More of a box-to-box player (will need to switch his game up)
Great long shot on him
Good long distance passer
Up for a battle

He's a decent player and better than Coquelin from a technical point of view but as a defensive destroyer not as good.

His attributes and physique seem suited to the PL but for the position we may require him in, he'll need to adapt his game.

I'm not sure how good he is a recycler of the ball, passing between the lines, general distribution is to know if he could succeed as DM next to Ramsey for example.

He's a solid addition to the squad if the deal is concluded however. Can't complain at £5m

No clue who he is...I m sure our scouts have done extensive research on this lad.

Copied comment :

"First off I'm a United fan, I'm also Egyptian and a fan of the Egyptian premier league. I've been watching El-Neny since his days with Arab Contractors and the u20 National team and the Olympic team, and of course with Basel. The boy was on Bayern's radar prior to him going to Basel and honestly has developed really well there especially in the last couple of seasons. He's performed really well against top English sides, played in wins against Spurs and Chelsea (sorry in advanced for calling Spurs a top side). He's a work horse, covers a lot of ground. Last year in the champions league up until basel were knocked out he covered more ground than any other player in the champions league. He has a pretty good long shot on him and good passing range. Yes he is a box to box but he tends to bomb forward more when the team is missing some attacking flair. He's stronger than he looks but at the same time he's no Yaya Toure obviously. I think he's a good buy especially if you guys are getting him for the rumored price. I know most of you guys think he'll just be a back of for le Coq, but I could definitely see him competing with him for a spot in the starting 11, but you never know how quick he'll assimilate to the league. In an ideal world he'd blaze the league become your captain and be sold to us . Cheers lads.
Edit: he's also scored 6 goals this season so far, not too shabby for a DM if I have to say so myself."

Seems to be typical Wenger's shrewd signings!

Best of luck to the lad

Sounds like sort of player we need. Solid reliable squad player and back up.

We will need one more addition

Cazorla out for the season, Coq still out for 2 more months and Wilshere at least another 6 weeks
