RIP

Peter Baker was one of our unsung heroes of the Spurs Double Winning Team, was the longest serving player at the time of the Double, joined in 1952. I liked Peter, just got on with his job with the minimum of fuss. Never got an England cap, which shows you how they give them out like confetti today. Not many left now, Just Maurice Norman, Cliff Jones, Les Allen and Terry Dyson.

RIP Peter.

I never got the chance to see him play in person, I started going to the Lane in 1967 when only Dave Mackay and Cliff Jones were left from the Double side...I've only ever seen grainy black-and-white footage of him in action, which doesn't really give me more than an impression of what sort of player he was. In my mind's eye I see him as a fairly 'cultured' type of fullback...is that right or am I letting nostalgia cloud my view?

Peter Baker was a defender who defended !!!!! unlike so many of today's full backs who are good going forward but cant defend to save their life. Don't recall him bombing down the wing much but we did have proper wingers then so there wasn't the same need.

Peter Baker, as Puffin said was just a good solid right back, did his job, very rarely made any mistakes, and was unfortunately overshadowed by the more illustrious members of the team like Mackay, Blanchflower, Smith, Jones and White, etc, but nevertheless was a very valuable member of the side. What you saw is what you got with Peter, same with Ron Henry on the other flank.

He was part of the greatest British club team ever. Spurs legend without doubt.

RIP

He joined Spurs from non league Enfield in 1952, and emigrated to South Africa when he left in 1965, according to wiki.
