Wage bill of £13M

Is Cellino doing a good job at Leeds, for me yes he is. It looks like he has reduced the wage bill to around £13M a year which is a big reduction from the £20M+ it was at last year. Combined with our turnover of £25M means we are not quite cooking on gas but will be able to compete with the bigger teams in our league over the next few years.

I agree with his stance on wages as these figures still mean for an average squad of around 25 players the wages are in the region of £10K a week!!!!
We need to maintain this wage structure until/if we gain promotion and then we can up the wage cap.

Forest have a wage bill of £24M, Fulham £60M Hull £38M MK Dons £4M and Preston £6M so we could trim the wage bill even more if needed.

Spot on VOF I believe it's a balance that requires a lot of luck and knowledge of players to help bring in quality players at the right cost both in terms of transfer fee but more importantly the wages. This is something we have generally failed badly at for a very long time.

Do you really think that Bournemouth, Watford, Norwich, Southampton, Leicester etc all had lots of luck when signing players?

Or do you think that maybe they were prepared to invest decent amounts, encounter some duds along the way, but actually have a plan and supportive board that had the patience to see a plan to fruition?

Beyond me how they did it without having 6 managers in 2 seasons.

Luck is needed in all forms of success. Simply put we sign a player for £20M and 2nd game in he breaks his leg wow that's him out for at least 12 months. Unlucky or what.
Bournemouth have had some critical injuries this season and may still be relegated because of it.

Again Jonty investment doesn't always bring success. Remember the sc£M from the 1970s and early 80s and how they are now having spent £250M.

Investment doesn't guarantee success but lack of investment is likely to lead to failure.

Agreed, but investment with a good manager is much more likely to do well than no investment with a not so good manager, or do you think otherwise?

A decent manager and investment are the key, you are right Jonty. The better the manager the lesser the investment has to be also I believe.

Not sure about that last bit, even Revie said without good players there wouldn't be a lot he could do as a manager apart from get them fit and organised.
