Vardy signs new contract with Leicester

Reported to be £80k per week, keeps him with the club until 2019.

Pretty good day all round I'd say....

So in other words he's increased his release clause

Good luck to you guys. Its all about keeping the team together. My own team (Dundee United) won the Scottish league in 82/3 season. It was a great achievement at the time. Rangers, Celtic and Hearts all had good teams at the time and we also had Fergies Aberdeen team to deal with too. If United or Scotland aren't playing. I'll always back the underdog. Hope you giving Arsenal a going over next week too, good luck

Ranieri won't leave. He loves it here more than anyone.

Nice words from Vardy. Don't like the size of salary but that's football these days.

There's something special at our club currently, I'm glad he wants to be part of it.

I hope so Mersey because he'll now be the focal point for the leaches to try and poach.

Would be nice if we could do the same with Mahrez, but I think he is off in the close season - Just got a hunch he'll go to Arsenal with the French link

Good news. However as we've seen in the past, signing a new long term deal can be a way of hiking the price up. I'm hopeful we can retain his services though as he is reportedly worth £18M. If sold 25% would apparently got to Fleetwood (I hear siren calls of 'sell, sell' from the northwest ).

That would mean £13.5M net available to spend on a replacement. Could we get another top quality striker for that?

So no desire for the club to sell, only a move then if Vardy himself wants it and no sign of that at present.

Slight nervousness about the £80k/week as we would potentially be in trouble if relegated next season with high wage bills and long term contracts (that's a worst case scenario with us say in the Europa League next year causing us to struggle in the Premier League).

Ranieri? Hopefully he's seeing us as a final project before retirement. What a good one to have on his CV if he achieves the impossible and wins the top league - something he hasn't done in his career before despite previous success with quality teams. He'd also have the prospect of managing us in Europe next year so I'm hopeful he'll stay.

Still, nice to be able to have these sort of worries in February rather than facing another Championship campaign like we were a year ago!

does anyone think the reason we didn't sign an expensive player in the window is because we spent our wage budget on Vardy's rise?

That's practically a signing in itself
