Happy Birthday Jimmy Greaves

76 today, arguably Spurs greatest ever player along with Dave Mackay.

JImmy was my childhood hero, in his later years at Spurs we had a very average team at time but he scored by the hatful.

Way before my time! would love someone to explain why he isn't Engands record goalscorer, such a shame.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of the managers (eg Ransey) preferred "workers" in the team and Jimmy never tracked back or tackled (no good for Poch !) but give him the ball within 25 yds of the goal and you knew where it would end up.
All the years I watched him, I never once saw him not score when 1-on-1 with keeper.

This is one thing Kane needs to work on.

Jimmy never "shot" simply passed the ball into the corner. Think sometimes Kane just leathers it and hoped for the best.

The greatest British goal scorer of all time without doubt and in the top 5 in the world of all time.

Happy Birthday Jim.

Greaves’s legacy is enduring. He remains the all-time leading league goalscorer in Europe’s top five leagues, with 366 league goals putting him one ahead of Germany legend Gerd Muller.

Was just going to post an article on Greavies birthday until I saw Sandy had beaten me to it.

One thing I think even Chelsea and Spurs fans can agree on - he was the greatest goal scorer of recent time.

Happy birthday Greavsie!

Coincidently it would also have been Peter Osgoods 69 birthday today had he still been alive!

Simply the best player I've ever seen in person.

For me he was up there with Pele and Best in his era, maybe not in terms of all-round play but in terms of pure goalscoring, no-one was better. I can't rate him any higher...if anything, I think he's been under-rated.

Best player I've ever seen was Eusebio of Portugal in the 1960's. However I do remember such Spurs players as Billy Nick and Alf Ramsey and Ron Burgess as well as the great Ted Ditchburn.
