Living Wage

So hearts are the only side in the SPL to pay their staff the living wage. I find that pretty poor. Celtic go on about how the club was set up to help the less priveleged, yet can't pay staff the basic rate going. We'd probably have been better playing some of the bar staff or pie stall vendors this year in place of derk or ambrose. Poor show celtic.

The Tories have nothing to do with the living wage. They have caused confusion by rebranding the minimum wage as the national living wage (replaces the minimum in March)

The living wage is set by an independent charity foundation that bases it on current cost of living and being able to have life of some sort on top.

Didn't know that

Cheers

It does not matter one jot whether it is a Footbali club or industry, People have the right to expect to be paid a living wage, what has happened to working class people when some are happy to see others living in poverty to justify the actions of the club they support , whichever club that might be

where is the evidence that any of these people are living in poverty. You started point scoring and are now back tracking.

The majority of people who are effected by this at Celtic Park are part-time people and I many cases it's their second job. They are not poorly paid in relation to the work that they do. Unlike some face painters I could mention.

Murney just another dirty Tory trick sadly to deflect from the good work the living wage foundation have done over the years.

FYI the previous living wage of 7.85 would yield a monthly pre tax wage of £1,218.75 for a full time employee. Once the taxman takes his wedge it won't leave much to live on and have some sort of life ddoes it?

To suggest they can simply get a second job again defeats the whole point of the living wage. People shouldn't have to work 100% of their waking hours just to survive.

Otherwise what are they working for?

"I do find it strange however that Celtic have said it's not in their interest to do this"

Businesses (like Celtic plc) have a DUTY to their shareholders to maximise the business profits, and hence dividends for shareholders. This is why it's not in their interests to do this. I'm not saying I agree with this, far from it, but that's how (successful) businesses operate.

The vast majority of large companies that don't pay living wage (which is the majority of them) when asked have normally stated along the lines of

We are investigating how we can apply the best deal for staff or its not currently financially viable but will be considered in future or some other menaingless soundbite or statement.

While I agree they are exactly that sound bites. Celtic are the only company I am aware of to say its not in thief interest to pay living wage

The Celtic board are an absolute embarrassment to the club on this issue. Happy to gain publicity from the "we started as a charity" line. It's a fecking disgrace.
