Living Wage

annoys me something awful if I'm being honest and its the most significant symbol how the club has become less of a unit and more of a business.

That's not true.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of clubs DO pay their staff the living wage but the clubs that sign up as a guarantee to do it are the only ones who are seen to be doing it.

I could be wrong but I believe Celtic's stance was why should we sign up to something we already do.

Why not? If we already do it then what's the issue in signing up to confirm it?...

we pay less than the living wage, and if memory serves i'm sure the club says it "wasn't in their interests" to pay it.

that's disgusting as far as I'm concerned.

What staff are we talking about? Match day temps or full-time employees?

As long as you pay the minimum wage what is the issue?

Celtic announced at the last AGM that they would pay the living wage, but they haven't signed up to it.

posted on 23/2/16

not signing up to it just means that they dictate when they start paying it.

I may be wrong but has it not gone up since the last time we said we would? is it not at 8 quid odd now?

Celtic pay its staff £7.85 per hour, which was the previous Living Wage and the club have so far resisted calls to increase it to the current official hourly rate of £8.25 - which came into effect on November 2nd.27 Nov 2015

that's why they don't sign up to it Irvine.

its pathetic quite frankly. quick to give themselves a rise.

They don't pay it murney. Surely if your already doing something then there would be no harm in signing a bit of paper to confirm your doing it.

Then they need to pull their finger out and up the pay.

Now I have no idea what number of staff get paid this old living wage but even at a guess if it was 200 people then to increase their wage would be 40p an hour or roughly £16 a week if they do 40 hours.

That would be £3200 a week across the club.

FFS they charged the 35k that went to the Europa league games £4.50 each just to book the 3 tickets.

They pay Boeriggter far more than that to sit on his arrse.

In fact fvck it.

I suggest Celtic sack all of the staff below the minimum living wage and sent Boeriggter to do every single job they all currently do.

Worthless shiftless bassa

They agreed to pay it but didn't sign the guarantee and I wouldn't either. It commits you to pay future increases to which at the moment equates to letting a bunch of mad tories decide how much you pay you staff. (that's different mad tories to the ones who are on the board).

The tories are at it on this anyway.....why have a minimum wage and a living wage. If they feel that strongly about it just have one. They are just trying to take thee pressure off themselves and put it on to the employers.

Couple next to me waited twenty five minutes for two teas before the Ross County game....not sure why we have to pay the staff any more than we do already.

+++++

For every £7.85 Celtic pay our fans will raise £15.70 for the board to take credit for

Is that better???

Wow, nice to see a sense of fairness and solidarity is not dead within your supporters

If I ran a business I'm not sure I would sign up for something that takes the decision of how much to pay my staff out of my hands.

As Magnum asks, why have both a minimum wage and a living wage?

It does not matter one jot whether it is a Footbali club or industry, People have the right to expect to be paid a living wage, what has happened to working class people when some are happy to see others living in poverty to justify the actions of the club they support , whichever club that might be

where is the evidence that any of these people are living in poverty. You started point scoring and are now back tracking.

The majority of people who are effected by this at Celtic Park are part-time people and I many cases it's their second job. They are not poorly paid in relation to the work that they do. Unlike some face painters I could mention.

Pfft, paying people enough money to live fully in our society is so overrated.

Next they'll be wanting holidays and "rights" and days off and safe working conditions.

Throw them down the pits is what I say, that'll make men of them! Even of the women!!!

The Tories have nothing to do with the living wage. They have caused confusion by rebranding the minimum wage as the national living wage (replaces the minimum in March)

The living wage is set by an independent charity foundation that bases it on current cost of living and being able to have life of some sort on top.

I commend hearts for this and any clubs that have committed to work towards this accreditation. It's not easy as you need to commit to its annual rises but that's kinda the point Tbh.

On average it's Rosen by 3% per annum over the past 3 years which does not seem harsh at all but for some companies is difficult to stretch to.

I do find it strange however that Celtic have said it's not in their interest to do this
