No assurance that we would win any trophy.

Arsenal went through a lean period. United are now going the same way.

Suppose there is never any assurances in football. Although I feel you can't really compare the last quarter of a centuries lean time at Everton to either United or Arsenal.
Would you rather battle away being plucky old Everton because we don't spend as much money and also win nothing, or have the financial muscle to fight for trophy's and the top players? Unfortunately football has changed and if you don't have the money to compete then apart from the odd random case teams generally don't win anything with out spending a lot of money.

For me it has never been about winning and banging on about it like a nine year old United fan......

It's a family thing, going when I was a kid, growing up....moving away but still travelling back to meet up with old matchday friends and taking the boy along from time to time.

Football stopped being a sport a long time ago, it's all about the money nowadays, although fair play to Leicester this season.

For us to compete long term with City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal and you have to include Spurs in there, then we need bank rolling - unfortunately if it means selling our soul and a club that attracts all the johhny come lately fans, then so be it

So winning isn't important to you?
You could still meet up with friends at the match, still take your boy. The only difference is we would win (hopefully) more trophy's.

Why does having a lot of money mean your selling the clubs soul? Yes we would have more fans if we won more, nothing wrong with that.

I wouldn't complain.....but it still isnt the thing I go for.

My fear is that the soul and heart of the club I love would be changed forever. I wouldn't be concerned with us attracting more fans, more global fans and selling out commercially...

But the club needs to retain its roots in the community that it has always served

I completely agree but selling to new owners/shareholders doesn't particularly mean an end to all the good work the club currently do, e.g.The launch of Everton in the community and the Everton school.

It's only natural, but I suppose to a certain extent we are at the mercy of any new owner/investor regardless if they spend lots of money or not.
