Never heard of the Rumour. Usmanov is filthy rich, makes Roman look like a peasant

I wouldn't be surprised, despite his public statements to the contrary.

At only 30%, his only chance of joining our board is at the mercy of the majority shareholder, who he's admitted to have never spoken to.

I don't see the Everton board allowing two close business partners to own more than 50% of the club though.

Seeing as Moshiri already has 49.9% it wouldn't be to difficult. Also apparently Kenwright will be stepping aside.

It would be an interesting turn around IF we were taken over by wealthy men. I fear the identity of the club could be lost.

It would take something similar to the regelation work done at City to keep them from tearing out the soul of the club

I doubt either Chelsea or city feel the soul of their club has been tourn out.

I would, we have had all our success while not relying on oil money.

Okay we did have a period as the Mersey Millionaires, but these were local and understood the clubs place in the community

You were known as the Bank of England club, but I suspect the differential in wages between the clubs in the old First Division was not as great taking into account inflation. I would have thought Best and Charlton were on more money than any of the Everton players then as an educated guess.

It was a time when luckily a local man made his fortune and backed the club.

My fear is that the connection to the local community would be lost, football clubs were not setup to earn millions for players and owners.

Yep and think of all those horrible horrible trophies you would win.

No assurance that we would win any trophy.

Arsenal went through a lean period. United are now going the same way.

Chelsea fallen away....

Arsenal's lean period was due in no small part to the stadium move which not only inhibited their spending, but, so we're told, forced the sale of at least one member of the squad every summer.

You'd have to imagine that would've been lessened by being bankrolled by some Usmanov/Abramovic type.

I grew up in an era when Everton were seen as genuine contenders. 20 odd years in the doldrums have eroded the club's identity.

Arsenal's lean period was also due in no small part either to persistent managerial mismanagement, unjustified arrogance and at times sheer incompetence, from the one and only,......

Mr Arsene Wenger !

Suppose there is never any assurances in football. Although I feel you can't really compare the last quarter of a centuries lean time at Everton to either United or Arsenal.
Would you rather battle away being plucky old Everton because we don't spend as much money and also win nothing, or have the financial muscle to fight for trophy's and the top players? Unfortunately football has changed and if you don't have the money to compete then apart from the odd random case teams generally don't win anything with out spending a lot of money.

haveife, through the lean times before HK, during the best period the club has seen and the lean years that have followed.

For me it has never been about winning and banging on about it like a nine year old United fan......

It's a family thing, going when I was a kid, growing up....moving away but still travelling back to meet up with old matchday friends and taking the boy along from time to time.

Football stopped being a sport a long time ago, it's all about the money nowadays, although fair play to Leicester this season.

For us to compete long term with City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal and you have to include Spurs in there, then we need bank rolling - unfortunately if it means selling our soul and a club that attracts all the johhny come lately fans, then so be it

So winning isn't important to you?
You could still meet up with friends at the match, still take your boy. The only difference is we would win (hopefully) more trophy's.

Why does having a lot of money mean your selling the clubs soul? Yes we would have more fans if we won more, nothing wrong with that.

I wouldn't complain.....but it still isnt the thing I go for.

My fear is that the soul and heart of the club I love would be changed forever. I wouldn't be concerned with us attracting more fans, more global fans and selling out commercially...

But the club needs to retain its roots in the community that it has always served

I completely agree but selling to new owners/shareholders doesn't particularly mean an end to all the good work the club currently do, e.g.The launch of Everton in the community and the Everton school.

It's only natural, but I suppose to a certain extent we are at the mercy of any new owner/investor regardless if they spend lots of money or not.
