Was watching the Keane Viera series again and looking at Keane's team selection, his omission of Giggs and Scholes was obviously controversial but I like how he has Ince and Staam in that team. 2 players Ive admired from past united sides.I feel at times the english/british status of united players made them overrated a bit, especially Giggs.
Scholes was wrongly omitted and giggs should come in for Beckham but the omission of Neville is also funny. Its funny how he calls Neville a weak link yet Gary tried to provoke and portray a tough guy image.
But looking at the quality of players its ridiculous when you look at the gap between the Central midfielders and what we have now.
I mean Viera and Keane are way better than anything we have seen in the last in the last 20 years and then when you look at Scholes its just amazing how the game hasnt produced better players.I honestly thought Cesc would be as good if better than Scholes but looking at him now its a resounding NO.
From the kid that used to almost demand the ball ever 20 seconds he hides at chelsea and is a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal.
Anyway the gap in quality made me think of a great Premier league 11 and this is what I came up with.
Petr Cech
Gary Neville Rio Ferdinand John Terry Ashley Cole
Patrick Viera Paul Scholes
Christiano Ronaldo Robert Pires
Thierry Henry Didier Drogba
Bench
Schmeichel
Cambell
Ince
Bergkamp
Giggs
Cesc
Shearer
No Liverpool but still an amazing team. That team would win every week
Best Premier league 11

Yeah think formation comes into as well. Two of any of those players in a 442 is fair enough I'd say, maybe not Lamps.

Best DMs
Makalele
Keane
Essien/Mascherano
Best attacking mids
Scholes
Lampard/Cesc
Best own the centre of the park box to box
Toure/Vieira/Gerrard
Best deep lying keep things ticking over types
Alonso
Modric
Even then some players cross over into other categories depending on the season

Missed out Keane in the box to box role and Scholes in the deeplying role but overall that's pretty fair.
Depends what type of midfield you wanna go with I suppose. This is the difficulty with picking a prem 11. Same can be applied to the striker positions, but I still wouldn't have Drogba.

What did Modric do compared to even someone like Gary Speed or Gareth Barry?
Well enough to be pursued by both United & Chelsea before moving to Madrid
Did well in a team that was not seen as a potential PL title winning team, also went onto win a CL winners medal with Real Madrid
