Get rid of scholes for ramsey

maybe Gerrard on the bench instead of Ince and Keane instead of Giggs

Fabregas peaked early, at a time when everyone thought he was just getting started. Move to Barca didn't help, otherwise he could've been the greatest midfielder of his generation.

The team is solid but all time XI are tough to call. Like Gerrard and Shearer have just as much claim to be in there as anyone

What's wrong with that video?

Drogba shouldn't be in there. Wouldn't even make the top five strikers to play in the prem, as good as he was.

Thanks you! Drogba, for whatever reason, always gets a mention in these things seemingly because of his propensity to show up in big games and whilst that's an outstanding trait to have, lest we forget that consistency is a much more valuable trait over a 38 game premier league season.

In 9 seasons, 4 of them saw him fail to reach double figures in the league. Two of which (2007-08 and 2008-9) were back-to back during his prime when he had a grand total of 13 goals across those 2 seasons - which says everything about how good the Chelsea sides he played for were that they could still finish 2nd and 3rd in those seasons. Henry never once failed to reach double figures. Shearer had three 30-goal seasons in a row and was still regularly banging them in during his twilight years.

Drogba was class and I understand that his game was based on more than just his goal haul, but even as an all encompassing centre forward there's more consistent strikers, there's more gifted strikers and, to put it bluntly, there's better strikers to have played premier league football. Wouldn't make my top 5 either.

I cringe at the amount of times "Vieira" is spelt "Viera" on this forum, he isn't a make of TV.

Herbie

People also forget that Drogba's big game presence was often in cups rather than the premier league as well.

Picking a top five is hard, but Drogba wouldn't be in it.

The problem with Keane is has far too many chips on his shoulders, and that's influenced his decisions on his selections. here is my team for the record;

Schmiechel (easy decision)

Neville Vidic Ferdinand Cole

Ronaldo Keane Scholes Giggs

Henry Shearer

So, no room for Bale or Modric even on the bench??

Interesting!

posted on 19/3/16

Think you can make a case for Bale, not Modric, though.

The likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Essien, Makelele, Toure and even Carrivk have had better premier league careers than Modric.

What did Modric do compared to even someone like Gary Speed or Gareth Barry?

makalele is the best dm in the history of dming

Maybe, but I'd still rather have Viera, Keane, Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, Essien and Toure in my midfield.

What about drinky?

Tough choice between him and Hoddle.

me too Darren, it depends if it's the best players in each position or the best XI as a team

posted on 19/3/16

Yeah think formation comes into as well. Two of any of those players in a 442 is fair enough I'd say, maybe not Lamps.

Best DMs
Makalele
Keane
Essien/Mascherano

Best attacking mids
Scholes
Lampard/Cesc

Best own the centre of the park box to box
Toure/Vieira/Gerrard

Best deep lying keep things ticking over types
Alonso
Modric

Even then some players cross over into other categories depending on the season

posted on 19/3/16

Missed out Keane in the box to box role and Scholes in the deeplying role but overall that's pretty fair.

Depends what type of midfield you wanna go with I suppose. This is the difficulty with picking a prem 11. Same can be applied to the striker positions, but I still wouldn't have Drogba.

agreed on drogba

for proper out and out centreforwards I'd go
Henry
Shearer
Torres
RvN/RvP/Owen
Drogba
