REALISTIC potential new managers...?

Okay so we all know our owners approach to new managerial appointments is a bit like an adult version of blindfolded kids playing pin the tail on the donkey, but in a realistic world, who could we and more importantly, who should we be approaching?

I'll make a start so and highlight some suggestions:

1. Obvious but questionably attainable English based managers; names like Gary Monk and Nigel Pearson would satisfy most fans but with our current standing its likely that these guys will have better options than us.Gary Rowett would be an excellent choice but hard to see us having enough to coax him away from Brummy despite how bad their current ownership predicament is.

2. SPL; a top target could be Robbie Nielson, Hearts mgr, 35 years old and got hearts promoted last year on a shoestring with youth and attacking players, demolishing Rangers along the way, passionate guy with tonnes of energy and enthusiasm. Another option would be Mark Warburton, wasted up in Scotland as we all know was the brains behind Brentford's insurgence, plays attacking football and works on a shoestring and believes in young players. Alan Stubbs at Hibs is also making a bit of a name for himself but its early days in his career and hasnt as yet won a promotion, seemingly was under consideration for the QPR job. Scottish clubs also cant compete financially with championships clubs so these guys are very much attainable.

3. Lower league mgrs; not exactly an area we've dipped into too often before but some talented young managers making names for themselves at present. Chris Wilder being one at Northampton Town whose running away with L2 at present, also Justin Edinburgh at Gillingham is doing well. Slim pickings really as these appointments can be seen as risky, JFH isn't exactly pulling up any trees at QPR despite his lower league success at Burton but its early days. An unlikely destination for our owner anyway whose not known for his patient or methodical approach.

4. Foreign coaches; names like Petrescu and Laszlo getting floated but I think the less said about these guys the better, reckon we need a British based manager who knows the cut and thrust and bear pit mentality that is the Championship.

The only foreign manager with champ experience that springs immediately to mind is Zola.

Wasn't as bad as the big bucks handed out to Davies but still evidence of more poor planning.

This is starting to worry even more. If we are going for a continental head coach, then does that mean we will have to appoint a Technical Director/DoF, and head of recruitment? Fawaz finds it difficult to get one appointment right, now he might have to make three.

Also, whoever he chooses as manager/coach not only will the usual trolls be calling for him to go from day one, but also the xenophobes will be on his case.

The poor chap will be walking into a nightmare.

Every manager that takes the job is walking into a nightmare unfortunately. Just got to pray that we do come out of embargo, that we have better luck with injuries next season, and that our young players fulfil their potential. Then maybe a half decent manager could have a successful season. Seems a very big ask though.

Steady on Cannigia. That's a lot of wishes used up in one go!

Good luck to Tyler Walker. Should be making his Burton debut. Hopefully they'll toughen him up.

I know Will! Hence why it seems so unlikely. I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that if those things did happen then we might not need a great manager. I'd take another season in embargo if it meant we had an injury free season like Leicester have managed over past three years.

You don't generally need a great manager in this league, just a settled team. Dyche is the trend setter IMO. Doesn't flap and gets the best out of ordinary players. I would like to see him and Woan at Forest one day with proper backing (so not under FAH).

The last time we were properly happy was probably 20 years ago, since then we've been mismanaged by everyone that has touched the club, even Nigel Doughty didn't get us anywhere. Mind you, look at Leicester, they've had to wait a 100 years to win something meaningful, so we might not see anything positive for a long time to come.

Just to clarify, what have Leicester actually won that was meaningful?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been glaringly obvious that they'll win it for a long time now, this PL has been the weakest since it began in 1992, I mean, look who their closest challenger is - Tottenham! Imagine if it was this weak back in Frank Clark's day, we'd have won it at a canter!

M'mm, I have seen teams throw it away before from similar positions.

Clark's team could well have triumphed had they kept Stan for another season...
