The Undroppable Simon Mignolet

Another game, another balls up and more lost points

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it's the Mignolet way.

As angry as I am with Simon, he doesn't pick himself. So I have to take issue with the management and Brendan before him.

Simon lost his spot for the odd match, notably the league cup ties so it wasn't necessarily down to form but he typically got back in the team for the following match.

Simon Mignolet seems to make high profile errors every other game yet doesn't get dropped, is defended by the manager and was astonishingly awarded a new contract.

There was an argument that the new contract would ensure Liverpool would get a good fee from his sale but how much do they think people would cough up for Mr Flap? I can't recall many players who are rewarded for poor form so why is the Belgian keeper any different ? Poor Sander Westerweld made two mistakes in a week was sent packing.

There were a percentage of fans that didn't rate Simon from his first 18 months at the club. They could already see the poor distribution, the inability to handle straight forward crosses and so on but a large portion of the fanbase kept pointing to his great shot stopping as a reason to persist with him (I'll take about this shortly). What's clear however is the number of those who stood by Simon is on the wane and there won't be many who mourn the sale of a keeper who in my opinion has been one of Liverpools worst Premier league signings.

Bit harsh you say - OK, Lets look at some stats:

- In the last 3 years, no player has made more individual errors resulting in an opposition goal than Simon Mignolet - 3 YEARS!!!

- Of the 22 keepers in the premier league to have played more than 8 games, Mignolet ranks 21st in shot to save ratio (Great shot stopper you say??????)

- From winning positions, Mignolet is just behind James for worst record of lost points than any other Liverpool keeper since the 1960s.

Put simply, there is no defence for Simon. He doesn't command his box, he can't handle crosses, he isn't a great shot stopper, his distribution is woeful and he has proved to be a HUGE burden in our pursuit of Champions league football.

By some counts, Mignolet has cost Liverpool 10+ points this season whereas De Gea has saved United 10+ points.

I have nothing personal against Simon but Liverpools primary objective this summer must be to replace the Belgian between the sticks

Op....he is just simply NOT a top 4 keeper, he will not be a number 1 for any team that realistically wants title and CL aspirations.

Klopp WILL know this, you can be sure of that. The 1 comfort is that Klopp will address this problem in the summer, rest easy we WILL be getting a new keeper

I wil gladly drive SM to his next destination

Swansea / Villa maybe?

People questioning why he's still in the team, surely it's not that difficult?

Klopp came in October. Tried Bogdan in the cup, he was a disaster. It's next to impossible to buy a class keeper in January, for anything less than close to a record fee anyway.

So Klopp got Ward back, and has seen him training for 4+ months now. So either he's not ready or not good enough.

Bearing in mind we are still fighting on two fronts, (to a degree) slating Mignolet would be the worst thing possible.

As far as the new contract, the chances of it being on massively improved terms are slim, and at the end of the day, Simon Mignolet will still get us in the region of 7 - 10 million. To let that walk away for free at the end of next season would have been ludicrous mismanagement.

Yep.

Mig will be kept next season as the new keeper settles in then sold next summer (probably) with good length on his contract still for a decent price.

Letting him leave for free would have been pathetic business.

I think they should have given Bogdan another chance.

He made a couple of misjudgements and all of a sudden Mignolets place is safe.

I also think just the fact that it would send the message out to Simon that I'll drop you if you carry on costing us points.

Do people really think Bogdan would have been the most costly Prem player of the last 3 years ? I certainly don't.

Mignolet used to be really good at Sunderland though.

Bogdan is terrible Metro.

He's played two games and had horror shows in both.

He wasn't even a good Championship keeper.

Yea, he couldn't get in the Bolton league team. Let's not pretend he's better than Mig. There's a reason he's been nowhere near the first team since Exeter.

Only BR could replace BJ with Bogdan

Bit like Suarez with Mario

Lloris just cost his side a chance at the title
