Sam Byram was supposed to be the cream of our youngsters a year or so ago. Yet, at West Ham he has hardly had an outing, and I see tonight against the sc*m that he is again not even on the bench.
Are we overrating our youngsters? Eddie Gray thinks Mowatt has gone backwards this season. Charlie Taylor has performed well this season, but is he Premiership quality? Maybe he just a good championship player, as is Cook. He has hardly scored this year and I think his goal tally needs to improve.
Perhaps these players need to realise that to play in the Premiership, their best hope is to get Leeds promoted. Otherwise they will just become a bench warmer like Byram at another club, or a reserve team player.
Overrated youngsters

Oh
And Spurs best player has been a player in midfield and who's same age as cook so your talking garbage

Other sides play kids in midfield in conjunction with an older or more experienced head alongside them. We've tried to do it without that - unless Luke Murphy is our older experienced head in midfield?!?!?! Dave has been a good addition, but only recently, as has Bridcutt.
You can't really compare Cook to Deli Alli - Alli appears to be a freakish talent. Cook is good, very good potentially - but right now not in the same league (literally!).

Who's comparing !!!!
Just pointing out you can have young players in midfield
We got promoted in 90 with two.
It's all about quality and old or young is irrelevant.
Vof
What about Austin last season and birdcutt and Dave both have either played since Christmas.
It's been poor attacking midfielders that have let us down

Liw ............. I got midway through typing and remembered Dave and Bridcutt .... but they've only truly supported the youngsters someway in to the season. Interestingly (well to me anyway!) .... our form, bar a couple of bad results, improved.
I agree you can have youngsters in midfield - but they need a Barton or similar alongside them in my view.
Rudy was good - but not sure he was that much of a leader.
I think Cook is quality - I'd love to see him with a better side round him. I'm not sure we're seeing the best from him as he's got too much responsibility and pressure too soon. A good young manager seems to be seeing his talent, i'll be amazed if a sizeable offer isn't made in the coming weeks.

Strangely they got better when they went of of the team towards the end

I think trying to fathom our team and any semblance of logic is probably wasted right now.
I'm just thankful that we didn't drop into the bottom 3!!!

It's not age that's the problem. Its the fact that we have midfielder's who are all practically the same style.
We need an attacking midfielder who can operate behind the front 1/2. All are pretty defensive

It all comes down to the main problem our team has and has had all season!..
Speed!..
The youngsters have it in them but the whole team is to slow, with a bit more speed I'm sure the youngsters could unlock a lot more defences!..

Taylor was excellent until that illness, got better as we went on. Has potential to play at top level IMO.
Cook showed glimses throughout but wasn't as good as the preivous season, his best game for us at the end of the season v Wolves where he put in a great performance.
These youngsters need a good set up, a good manager who can bring them on and better players who can play their game, team should be built around Cook with 3 or 4 top quality players in there with him.
As for Byram, he's injured. But played well for West Ham until injury.

Didn't West Ham buy byram for next season anyway, forced to buy early to stop Everton getting him?
