Will the real Gary Megson please stand up!

Somebody yesterday hinted on here that we Gary Megson backers are teacher's pets! Well, to begin with, I think most of us are basically willing to give the man a chance. For starters, he is a Sheffield Wednesday fan through and through. 2) He was a stalwart for us as a player and a crowd favourite. 3) He is the son of one of our greatest captains of all time....the legendary Don Megson. 4) He has shown he has the potential to do a good job for us, as he certainly did it for West Brom.

What does have me worried is the fact that we now basically have as strong, if not stronger, a squad as the blunts. They remain unbeaten after the first 6 league games and have just thumped Bury who, in turn, beat us.......and that being after losing 2 of their key players. Hopefully this is simply a result of us prizing away bury's own key player, Lowe.

It's hard to believe that the brain behind the blunts so-far successful push for promotion is our own Danny Wilson....another ex wednesday favourite on-field and a total failure for us as a manager. Football's a very funny business.

So, here's wishing Meggo all the best for the future in the hope he proves many of us wrong. As for me, I'm pretty much staying neutral and hoping .....better still, praying, that he shoves a lot of words down a lot of negative mouths (wednesday and Bolton)! Having said that, I just hope I don't get left with a load of egg on my face as I gorge away at that big, humble pie that could await me! UTO!!

I think we did show interest in summer along with other clubs & the Rotherham held on cos they wanted to keep him & le fondra agent heard of the interest & started to unsettle the players saying look who you can play for.

My original point was ther majority of the players we wanted to see play at Wednesday were championship class of player who want championship football with championship wages.

Sorry but speak for yourself; I was and am quite happy to try and pick up the best of the players in this division and lower. As long as they're, in the main, young and have a decent pedigree I'm more than happy.

You missed "with championship wages" off my quote?

I agree with you on that one but i don't think we are only club showing interest & these other clubs might be a better prospect to us.

Who? As far as I'm concerned, by and large we should have the pick of players in this league - especially this season with Southampton and Brighton gone.

Put it another way: if MK Dons go up automatically, how can Megson have any excuses, given their budget and ours?

well if we go by last years table you can pick from 13 teams that finished above us (not including Brighton & southhampton) also wot is this budget you talk of & how much do you think we have & mk don's have?

I'm not being negative like i said before i like the signing we have made & i think we'll go up in the playoffs but some of names that have been thrown about were abit unrealistic.

U10318:

MK Dons, Sheff Utd and Charlton are currently the top 3 in this league. They might not stay there but they haven't spent any more than us
-------------------

They probably didn't have to spend more than us as they had a better, although underperforming, crop of players. Our best player was undoubtedly Mellor, and he didn't even belong to us. Luckily Meggo's got rid of most of the dross, but it's not been an easy job bringing in new players with competition from the championship and clubs holding a gun to M.M.'s head! I don't think it's fair to judge Meggo until we see both COG and JJ back in action and see how the 2 new recruits , Lowe and Kasnik fare. As for ALF, there wasn't a cat in hell's chance that Rotherham would have let him come to us when there was a chance of him leaving the yorkshire area! They would probably have lost a host of their supporters to us, being a crowd idol! I honestly don't believe Reading offered anything more than us in that deal!

Unfair to judge Megson at all until the end of the season really so I agree there, just saying I'd have preferred a few different signings and if it does go wrong I don't see any excuses - financial or otherwise.

Debating Le Fondre is a bit pointless and I've bored on probably long enough about him but if we'd offered the cash he'd be our player - Rotherham maybe located close to us but they aren't are rivals and £350k for a player who may go for free us to much to turn down. Their chairman intimated that he'd go for the right price and I believe that's what happened.

Yes, 13 teams finished above us, some of those teams:

Bournemouth
Orient
Exeter
Rochdale
Colchester
Carlisle
Brentford
MK Dons

I don't know what our budget was last season or this season but I'd strongly suggest it's much more than those clubs now and then.

Let's see what happens tonight; Charlton got 1 more point than us last season so were in a similar position but have brought in most of their players in the close season, many on free transfers. Of course, some players, such as Danny Green, just wouldn't join us and other clubs demanded too much money but Charlton brought in a fair few on free transfers: 2 from Bournemouth, 1 from Exeter etc.

I think you have to assume we'd have had a chance of bringing in any of the players who joined League 1 clubs on free transfers so will be interesting to see how our signings line up against Charlton. Doesn't mean the seasons over if we lose but it will be rather annoying if the likes of Morrison and their free transfer signings have good games.

Well maybe that was our down fall we spent too much time on bellends like Mellor & missed the real gems in our league but i'm still confident so confident that we'll win tonight 3-2

Up The Owls!

bellends like Mellor? We'd have been near enough relegated without him last season! Anyway, I do think we have missed the good players in this league but as you say - let's hope we can do it tonight.
