Vincent Janssen: Underwhelming Buy?

I'm not an expert on the Dutch League or Vincent Janssen, but I must confess I am a little disappointed that it appears Spurs are passing up more proven quality for somebody who could be the next Afonso Alves.

He's had one good season in a really low level league and that is somehow seen as evidence enough that he can compete for a starting berth with Harry Kane?

Every time I watch him, he looks slow, cumbersome, lacking in agility, lacking in mobility and technically very underwhelming. He doesn't look anywhere near a top level potential player to me in the slightest.

Under Levy Spurs have done this so often with regard to passing up on genuine quality for cheaper alternatives, and it's never worked. Fazio and Stambouli immediately spring to mind and I get the impression signing Janssen could be another mistake.

Spurs really lack explosive pace in attack, and lack players who you can simply give the ball and be sure that they can produce something special by themselves - as Bale used to do. Janssen is simply not that type of player imo.

Thoughts?

Absolutely. And hopefully someone has nicked the clown shoes he was playing in for half of last year

Bad news is he will be going to the Olympics, so another disrupted preseason

Rumours are very strong that not only will Janssen join us but that we have opened talks with Batshuayi's agent.

It would make a big statement if we got both of these plus Vasquez from Palermo

Yep, we need to make a statement in this window that we mean business for next season, what with all the other top clubs` extravagant spending, there is a danger Spurs could be left behind a touch.

We must not stand still or add mediocre squad players, we need to improve our first XI and our squad. There will be plenty of money sloshing around so we can afford to spend, just as long as we continue to spend wisely.

If all that happened then as things stand out squad will be way too bloated in attacking mid

2 would have to make way

It would leave us with 3 strikers for 1 position. Which is ok I suppose

And it would leave us with Chadli son Njie alli Eriksen lamela Vasquez as senior attacking mids chasing 3 places. Plus Pritchard and onomah coming through.

If we sign two strikers and an attacking mid then 1 or two of Chadli, Njie and Son will surely be moved on.

I think Chadli will go, he just isn't a Poch player, not suited to our high energy pressing game.

Id also be very surprised if we sign two forwards and an attacking mid. I think it will be an out and out striker (number 9) and either another forward or an attacking mid.

Vasquez is different to anyone we currently have, whilst Batshuayi is a powerful and strong attacker. Janssen is very similar to Harry in many regards, but is a bit faster.
