England's record in 1st games at tournies

The last 15 tournaments (since I was born) we have only held on to 3 leads in the first game. That is 6 out of the last 8 tournaments now that we have taken a lead only to lose it. How can the same failing keep happening time and time again?

Wales have won as many first group games at international tournaments in the last 16 years as we have.

Shocking!

There's a lot of potential in this England team, but also a number of problems. I've been thinking about it since last night and part of the issue is a lack of leadership on the field. Look back to the 1990s and see how many leaders we had (Pearce, Shearer, Platt, Adams, Ince to name but a few). Where were the leaders yesterday? I'm not a fan of him, but taking Rooney off was a mistake when defending a slender lead.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lack of leadership isn't the reason we lost yesterday. Shiiit finishing and a clueless sub lost us the match. The team needs better finishers on the pitch. Lallana as good as he may have played is dreadful at finishing. Sterling too is dreadful at finishing. Milner and Henderson the same. If Kane has a poor game like last night and Rooney is playing deep, then we're going to struggle for goals when these crap finishers are on the pitch. Vardy/Sturridge/Rashford will have to be involved more against the stronger teams you feel.

If England go out then the fault with lies with the Tottenham bottlers that make up the squad.

We also don't seem to beat teams by a 2+ goal margin in tournaments. The last 2 tournaments we failed to do this. In 2006 World Cup we beat Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 but that wasn't actually a fair reflection on the game as they had many chances. Euro 2004 we had 2 very good convincing wins against Switzerland and Croatia.

It's also Milners fault yesterday, when he came on he did faaack all, he had all the energy yet somehow let's someone skip past him and whip a dangerous cross in! Don't know why people have an obssession with him when he is slow, offers nothing going forward, allegedly is supposed to be good defensively but where was that yesterday? I've said for many years he shouldn't be anywhere near the England team. Roy has an issue with pacey wingers too. Apart from Sterling there is no one else, don't know why Roy is so opposed to the idea!

Not sure what Roy sees in Sterling. He is useless!

Hodgson always takes shocking squads to tournaments. The players that help qualify for the tournament under Hodgson just get scrapped like Carrick. Its amazing he helps England qualify for tournaments and then gets scrapped for some nobody who barely shown half decent form for a month or the same old guard who come fit.

If you look at the 11 that played. Hart won something in his career. Smalling and Cahill won something in career, the big titles along with Hart. Rose won nothing. Walker won nothing. Rooney won lots of trophies. Dier won nothing. Alli won nothing. Sterling won league cup. Kane won nothing. Lallana won FLT.

Even since Sven-Göran Eriksson left, England have picked average players and expect to do well Their is a reason why Roy Hodgson has 1 win at an international tournament and he is in his 3rd campaign. Picking players who don't deserve to go. Its astonishing Henderson, Wilshere, Sturridge all crooked go but consistent performers like Carrick and Lingard don't go.

Henderson one of the worst players I have seen at shooting goes tells you everything you need to know despite being injured for ages. Shaw played more then Wilshere last season and Shaw was fit similar time to Henderson and Wilshere after end of season but Henderson and Wilshere has allowances made.
