"I don't really know what I'm doing here"

No, this wasn't Raheem Sterling explaining why he was in the England team. This was Roy Hodgson's first line in a press conference designed to answer questions from the media on behalf of England fans to provide an explanation on why England could not beat Iceland.

It's all well and good blaming the players, who to be fair should also be offering an explanation, but he was paid (more than any other international manager) to make the decisions for who gets picked and he is paid to manage 11 players to outplay and or outscore another 11 players. He was also paid to be the voice of the England team whether they win or lose.

I guarantee if any previous England manager was as cowardly as Hodgsn was during that press conference (and by all accounts he twice refused to even attend before eventually being convinced to do so) they would be slated at least twice as much as the flak Hodgson is getting, or in the case of Sven and Capello, 10 times more.

It's unbelievable isn't it? We just had the worst England performance and result we'd ever seen, and Roy thought he could get away with simply resigning without apologising or answering any questions, and going off into the sunset with his millions.

Absolutely clueless.

Yeah pretty poor form by Hodgson here.

Roy has got his press conference speeches mixed up. His very first press conference where he had just been appointed England manager, should have been met with "I don't really know what I'm doing here", followed by the announcement of his resignation.

I remember saying before the tournament started that Hodgson would get shirty with the media if things didn't go his way. At Liverpool he visibly bristled with anger when his management was questioned He really doesn't take criticism well and I always thought he was too thin skinned to handle the pressure of being the England manager.

I always thought of Hodgson as a decent man, as with many recent England managers a bit of a plum but generally OK.

This Championship has really changed my opinion of him, he's quite an obnoxious man.

I put as much blame on the players as I do on Hodgson but the way he resigned and thought he could get away without any questioning was scandalous. Both him and The FA should be made to answer questions in front of the media and public back in England .

Good riddance to the useless old codger.
