We might well make the play-offs. We may even go up. It'll be a scrap, mind. Tonight has shown that there isn't much in this league but it's very doubtful if we can take advtange and take the division by the scruff of the neck.
Megson seems obsessed with defence, defenders and holding on to what we've got yet we can't seem to keep a clean sheet. He's changed the entire back four pretty much but only Rob Jones looks half-way decent and even he has been shaky at times. Meanwhile, we let Morrison and Beevers go and Reynolds, until tonight, barely gets a look in. Mistakes I feel.
More worrying is the midfield. There is zero creativity - something I've been banging on about for months. Lines seems to have been signed solely to take free kicks and corners because, apart from when the game stops, you forget he's on the pitch. Marshall looks alright in parts but it's a sad state of affairs that a loan player, only brought in because we suffered 2 defeats in a row, is our best bet going forward. Semedo and Prutton look good but we need a couple of good players who can do something with the ball and they are sorely lacking.
I am very sorry to sound so negative after what is, on paper, a good result away from home. I can't see us building on it unfortunately because I don't think we're good enough. I like Megson and love the fact he's Wednesday but I think he's going about this season all wrong. We aren't keeping clean sheets and we don't look like scoring 2 or 3 goals a match from set pieces. As a Leeds fan posted earlier - not one of our team would get in their promotion side and I think that's the problem. It takes good players to win this league and I don't see 'em. Play-offs out best bet and that, to me, is a huge disappointment.
So Disappointed

I think, he thinks that goal scoring ability is automatically removed from players when they sign for us.

People slated Chris Brunt? Even I knew he was good, and I wa s10!

Yep, people slated Chris Brunt for being lazy and drifting out of games too much. To be fair, he did do that a lot but also he could win a game by belting one in from 20-30 yards.
Whelan, Brunt and Bullen would get into the current team; not too sure that many of the others from the 2005 team would get into the current squad/team. As others have said that 2005 team also had players like Lee Peacock, who were garbage.
Remember that we were lucky to even make the playoffs that season; without the loan signing of Kenwyne Jones and the goals he scored which sparked a decent string of results, we wouldn't have made the playoffs.

Funny how Bullen is a Wednesday legend but I seem to recall my heart was in my mouth every time a speedy striker turned him just outside the area! If Wednesday fans love Bullen then it is for his attitude and leadership skills rather than his footballing ability!

Of course, Brunt got better with time but as soon as he peaked he was off to the Premier League
--------------------------------------------------------
He went to West Brom who were in the Champ and not seen as certainties for promotion either.
so you'd think he was pretty decent to start with

I don't need to THINK, I KNOW because I saw him plenty! Unlike yourself who seems to just makes things up.
He wouldn't get in the team now because he was lazy and a long way from the finished product. I think Lines, Palmer, JJ, Marshall would all be preferred by Megson because they do more for the team.
Brunt made little impact in the promotion team. You are just changing history to suit your argument.

Brunt & whelan were class acts that's why they signed for teams that are better than us, I agree with Mike on this Bullen was a good defender but he had no pace which made him a liability but i wish we would have kept him on as a coach the bloke was born leader with bags of football knowledge.

What? Who cares about Sky's poxy list, it's individualist and irrelevant. By that logic, Lowe is our leading scorer. All I'm saying (as Mike suspects) is that it's not a nailed-on cert that he's going to continue his rich vein of form with us.
I remember that exciting young talent Gilles de Bilde having scored 24 goals in 49 apps for PSV......

You think Lowe might have trouble getting his dogs over from Lancashire Izzster?

Maybe.....they're a bit temperamental judging by his face...
