Akpom

Because of Wenger's dithering, the prices being asked for our targets are so high that even I wouldn't want us to pay them. Therefore I regret to say this but it looks like that if things remain the way they are we will not be signing anyone new. Wenger freely admitted that we didn't score enough goals last season and Giroud clearly does not have it in him to be a 25 - 30 goal a season man. As our only out and out striker, the question I want to raise is why isn't Akpom given a chance up front?

Look how much better we are as a team when Welbeck's upfront instead of Giroud, Sanchez and Walcott (apart from one run of games) because there's variation to how you can play off him. It's not just either hit long balls into and hope for knockdowns or over the top, he can do a bit of both like Akpom. He's scored at every level and although last season he was poor I think it was partly down to not believing that no matter what he does it's not going to be good enough for Wenger.

I think psychology's a bit more complex than that .

Every level except senior level!! Which is true for so many. He couldn't score in League 1 or in the Championship over the last 3 years.
Not sure it is a valid excuse to not perform, if he had then Wenger (the penny pinching scrooge who prefers to give kids a chance than sign expensive players) would have taken notice.

Go on then, which theory are you using?

Like he did with Afobe DJ? Coquelin was hardly pulling up trees at Charlton. I'm not saying he's guaranteed success but when we know what to we're getting from our other options it can't hurt to give him a chance. Digby I don't need to be using a theory to know what you were implying is either down to you lacking intelligence or you being deliberately obtuse.

Coquelin was very good at Chalton.
Afobe had a lot of injuries at Arsenal and is now warming the bench at Bournemouth - even prolific scorers in League 1 and the Championship can struggle with the step up.

You said if he played well Wenger might have gave him a chance which I illustrated with Afobe that's not neccasarily the case. Not as well as he performed when he was given his chance in the Arsenal team at a higher level though right? I'm talking like 1 or 2 starts if we don't sign a striker to see how he fits, given we know Giroud and Walcotts limitations what do we have to lose?

Too much is made of a 20+ goal a season striker.
Of course it would be great to have one, but many teams have won titles without one. Didier Drogba only scored over 20 once in his Chelsea career and won 4 titles, for example.

There are better solutions than replacing someone who scores 15+ PL goals with someone who has scored 3 league goals in overy 50 appearances.

Drogba suited that Chelsea team. The wingers and Lampard all played off him. Akpom may not match Giroud's tally but he could suit us a lot more.

Drifting wide whilst Alexis drifts inside, runs in behind for Ozil/Santi/Wilshere, poaching.

Rashford surprised and scored a few last year, Akpom around a better set of players could shock us.

Welbeck & Theo are awful yet our best football came with their brief stints in the team, Chuba will be something new.

Giroud is not a suggestion anymore we know what we're going to get from him and not only is it not good enough but it diminishes the impact of our best players.

Ozil is a lot better with giroud than theo
