The Specialist In Failure!

1. £12,1m average net spend on transfers every year from 1996 to 2016.

2. £1,56m average net spend every year from 1996 to 2013!!!

3. £72,1m average net spend per year from 2013 to 2016 - which coincides with 2 FA Cups, and finishing 4th, 3rd and 2nd in the league over the last 3 years.

What I don't understand (and probably never will) is why managers who can spend £90m on one player and win the league are considered specialists in success, whilst managers who have a budget for the same amount of £90m over an 8yr period are ridiculed for achieving a top 4 finish without fail?

I personally am very thankful that Arsenal have a highly intelligent board that does not give in to the annoying noise that comes from most Arsenal supporters. As the board have said on countless times, Arsene has earned the right to choose when he will leave the club and that won't change! So anyone who disagrees with this (even if Wenger wins nothing this year) can happily go and support Chelsea or Man Utd. There are more than enough fans who will keep supporting the club through thick & thin.

Wenger In!

IMO looking at net spend has its positives and negatives. On the one hand it's true that Wenger has done well with limited spend where other managers have failed, but that fails to take into account that Wenger (and this is to his own credit as a talent scout/developer) has had some extraordinary players at his disposal, which he should have done better with. I'm not talking domestic domination, but at the very least he should have won the odd trophy between 2006-14, but his teams often bottled it against weaker opposition and that has nothing to do with money.

On the other hand, I do find it a bit strange when I see 35-36 year olds talking about the 88/89 title challenge. You know who you are.

Why is that weird? (Im neither 35 or 36, btw. Just not sure why it is weird.)

Leicester City walking the league last season has taken away Arsene Wenger excuse. The fact is Arsene has squads good enough to do a Leicester City but bottled it majority of the time but have good enough spells to scrape top 4.

What's u losers excuse for speding over 500m and not winning it?

We certainly need someone who has worked with Wenger either as manager or more likely to be behind the scenes.

He wil sign another 3 year contract though I'm sure.

Bouldie knows the club backwards and forwards.

How much harm could he really do if we gave him a couple of years?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot. He has no experience as a manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it's either him or Vic Akers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Vic Akers has a lot of experience of management and has won a lot. Knows how to get the best out of a bunch of women. Might be a perfect fit

Great article. As the champions showed last year, it's just impossible to win the league without spending huge amounts.
