It’s hardly surprising that extremists are now front and centre. Trump’s campaign was a dog whistle to (amongst others) white supremacists, who previously had been on the sidelines.

This result has emboldened them. If the problem is not addressed by the new administration, their support, (and resistance to it) will only grow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One could argue white nationalist views were wound up by a liberal leftist pc elite in he western world, combined by anti-working class gobalized capitalism.
Concerns about mass immigration, national identity, cultural cohesion are also factors, hence recent election results.
I am always called racist, sectarian, bigot, right wing, islamophobic etc, and this matters nothing in the grand scheme of things, but highlights how many on the left think only their views are correct.

I am none of the above, but if I espouse an opinion as a white christian male, some cannot accept that aspect of our diversity.
If I say white working class kids do badly in education in Belfast, Glasgow, London, or Cardiff, some say dry yer eyes.
If I say isis are murdering christians, other muslims or gay men, south me call me racist and anti-islam.

If I oppose uncontrolled mass immigration, some call me a racist etc etc.

That is why people go poulist, electorally, if the liberal left pc keep demonizing legitimate opinions.

Saying that, I counter the racism and bile from the uvf, white racist groups, bigts in my community, and if Isaw a muslim or black or catholic, protestant or gay erson getting grief I would be first in, as the liberal pc folk turn and walk away or video it.

Just sayin likeπŸ˜‰

I think it’s fair to say, extremism of any nature should be condemned. Like yourself I am well aware of the sectarianism here at home.

In regard to the US election DT has brought out the worst of both sides. Unless his administration works with all parts of the country, I can see the problem getting worse before it improves.

To cite immigration as the challenge (like Trump has) doesn’t address the problem. America, and its constitution was founded by immigrants. It was built on the acceptance and tolerance of diversity. I’m not suggesting there is not a problem, as in parts of the US there is. However to blame/associate entire sections of the populace for the countries issues, (like Trump has) demonstrates complete ignorance.

I don’t think there is any country on the planet that endorses, or permits “uncontrolled mass immigration” yet Trump has (in the main) escaped criticism for this fabrication. Which, as noted previously, has reinvigorated those with extremist views.

When children (as seen of late in schools) start to exhibit xenophobia towards minority classmates, you have to ask the question, what does the future hold for the US.

This would fit another popular polictical debate on here.

"When children (as seen of late in schools) start to exhibit xenophobia towards minority classmates, you have to ask the question, what does the future hold for the US."

Or, indeed for 'us'.

It is quite interesting.

I'd said before the election that until recently, there was a very big difference between the UK and US electorates insofar as social issues (civil rights, abortion, policing, gun control, immigration) are, relatively speaking, much more important to US voters than economics; whereas the Brits (and, generally, Western Europeans) had, again relatively speaking, more or less found a social liberal consensus, and the political debate was more about economic policy.

Of course, the EU and immigration debates have changed that in the UK in recent years. But the US doesn't seem to have moved with social rather than economic issues on voters' minds.

"Hand-wringing"? You think people shouldn't be concerned if the country they live in has made what they consider a bad decision?

^ I think it's a valid description.

I made no comment on the motivation in either a positive or negative way.

Well, you sorta did - to use a term like "hand-wringing" suggesting that concern is excessive is fairly (and I imagine quite intentionally) derisive.

^ No I didn't at all.

It's an apt description of what people are doing.

Is it not then??
