Discipline review

A couple of news items this Monday morning (at least according to the Beeb) :

First of all, Leicester will be appealing Vardy's red card. This is the right decision IMO, worth the challenge as the extra game he'd miss (Everton away, FA Cup) is one he probably wouldn't play in anyway and there is a chance of the appeal being won.

Second, Leicester will be investigated for accusations of coin-throwing at the referee. While it was hard to tell for certain on Match of the Day, it certainly looked like the officials were ducking for cover from missiles. Now I don't care how bad a referee's performance is, even Jon Moss standard, anyone who joined in with this needs to learn more control over themselves. Anyone found to be guilty of it needs banning.

Contrary to most on here I can actually see why the Ref saw red. Vardy jumped with two feet and whilst I think he did make a genuine attempt to get the ball and did indeed get it, it was still reckless and I can see why it was given as a straight red.

The penalty was a little unlucky as Simpson wasn't looking at the ball and it was close range but you see them given every week.

I think City just lost the plot for 15 minutes and will probably be deservedly punished by the Premier League or the FA or whoever looks into these things.

Great comeback though.

FFS
Don't be realistic on here bro

No issue with the penalty myself - unlucky but it's a penalty.

Vardy - had to appeal but think we are wasting our time. FA will show no backbone but let's just move on.

As for the coin throwing, there is no excuse for it. Imagine if that thundercunt that threw the coins had hit one of us or a child supporting their own club..... No excuse. Find them, and ban them for life. I don't want my club associated with idiotic behaviour like this.

Is this appeal carried out by a 3 man independent commission?

I don't think we have much hope, appeals seem to be based around mistakes rather than being harsh?

When you see it in real time it looks bad Vardy does jump in the air to get to the ball so i think its 50/50.

Not only should they be banned but the Muppet on 606 should be for condoning it. Why on earth would you do that FFS it he had been hit and cut the match would be abandoned and we would be severly punished an reputation would suffered.

I am guessing its the same muppets who sing where where you when we where Poo,call fans plastic and stand infront of those who chose to sit.

Entitlement gone wild

That's the problem with real time, it looks a lot worse than it was. Yeah it was two footed but studs weren't showing, his feet were on the ground at the point of contact with the ball and the player. Danny Murphy even went as far as to say it was a good tackle and really it was. He won the ball and the tackle wasn't dangerous or late.

You're making it sound like coining throwing is a new phenomenon committed only by a certain stereotype of supporter but coins have been thrown for donkeys years, I used to make a fair amount of extra pocket money after games at Filbert Street.

It is Arro ? Did your dad let you in to collect the money?

I take it you don't believe the lower contact point and in particular the tussle with another player are significant differences between the two incidents, puffin?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually I do but the laws of the game don't distinguish between the two. Red for Vardy may have been deemed to be "harsh" but the EPL are keen to stamp out this kind of challenge. It would be so much easier if the players actually knew the laws they were playing to.

what probably hurts is the fact that we've seen Rojo make 2 worse challenges in the last 2 weeks and get away with it and then a sickening one from barkley last night which was only a yellow!

While I accept I don't know the laws letter for letter, I tend to ask two questions of these incidents:

1. Was it intentional?
2. If not, was it reasonably avoidable?

For this challenge, I'm happy that it wasn't intentional. So the question is whether it's reckless. The tussle beforehand casts doubt on that - the whole question of the two-footed challenge is about leaving the ground in order to make it, but when the tussle (not an unfair tussle BTW) knocks him of balance, in a split second he finds himself still trying to make what could well have been a far more reasonable-looking and controlled challenge but knocked into the air rather than deliberately or recklessly choosing to leave the ground. That, to me, casts easily enough doubt on the second question to tell me that it shouldn't have been a red card.

However, as with the DRS in cricket, I suspect the FA will decide that it's ambiguous enough not to overrule the on-field decision.

Speedy response but not much of a surprise Vardy's appeal has failed.

Just as an aside to the referees performance

The booking Craig Pawson awarded to Erik Pieters has been switched to Bruno Martins-Indi due to "mistaken identity"
