...and then there were three.

This was supposed to be the season the "big boys' all woke up and took their rightful place at the top. Fair play to Chelsea, they have risen to the challenge and have accumulated an astonishing amount of points, and could even threaten the PL points record they hold.

United were the early casualties of the title race. The gap was always big, but three draws in the New Year killed them off completely. Another big spending Summer, another big name manager, another scrap for a CL place. How the mighty have fallen, they are just another club these days.

After what was a pivotal weekend for the title race, it now appears another two sides have fallen by the wayside.

Arsenal's two defeats this week, one being to Chelsea, has extinguished any faint hope they had. The home loss to Watford was the real hammer blow though, an awful result. After signing big all down the spine I expected a more robust challenge, but the same old failings remain.

Liverpool also saw their hopes die this weekend. Defeats v Swansea and Hull recently are just not good enough. Credible draws v Chelsea and United, but 3 points from 5 games is a dreadful return since beating City. A resurgent Everton are now looming behind them, a gap less than half of what it is to Chelsea.

So just the two left now to attempt to try and overhaul Chelsea....

City, after a thumping at Goodison, have turned a corner. I have to say they were outstanding in our game, and utilised their wealth of attacking talent so well. The new lad has given the place a lift, and they are starting to click again. 10 points is a big gap, but with a trip to the Bridge still to come they know they have it in their hands to take a big chunk out of it. Question marks defensively still, but always the potential to outscore teams when it goes right.

Finally Spurs. The team expected to fall back in to 6th as all the others strutted their stuff, are now the only side within single digits of Chelsea. The only side that has looked capable of beating them recently. It could be curtains for us too with a defeat at Anfield, but we can hold our heads up high - 50pts would have seen us top after 24 games last season, and we are on course for about 80pts. If we can somehow win at Anfield, we are in a strong position for the run-in with Liverpool, Chelsea and City both out of the way, and trips to Old Trafford, Emirates, Goodison, Hawthorns, Brittania all out of the way.

"Hanging on by our fingertips"

This is exactly how I feel. Make no mistake, Chelsea's absence from European football means they're heavy favourites to win it, but if something were to happen - injury to one or more of Costa, Hazard, Kante or Azpilicueta or a couple of dodgy results - then we need to be there close enough to apply some pressure. A lot was made of not wanting Arsenal to win the other day but ultimately the closer we are to Chelsea, the more it gives us something to chase rather than worrying about trying to keep the chasing pack at bay. I really wouldn't fancy us spending 2-3 months fighting solely to hold onto a CL spot.

If we want to be a big club, we need to start thinking big.

Unfortunately their wobble would have come after we smashed them at WHL if they played anyone else but that shambles of a team Leicester

I remember watching the game, Chelsea looked poor and were being dominated by Leicester but then they got a goal from nothing (how many times have they done that this season ) and then the Leicester players heads dropped.

I think if they were going to have a wobble it was then after Spurs put doubts in their minds, they've now come through that and the huge test of Liverpool and Arsenal which they have also come through with flying colours. Can't see them dropping points now or not enough to lose the title.

there were three? You have no chance. You will still finish behind us, so surely we have a better chance than your bottling team. Can't wait for Liverpool to smash you this weekend

It's Chelsea's to lose. That's quite obvious. 10 points is tough to make up and they don't look like they will wobble enough to be caught. But, they've won quite a few games 1-0 and the hope is that they draw a few games to give teams a chance to catch them.

Can't see it happening though.

Arsenal are only three points behind us, if we aren't out of the race then I don't really see how they aren't either. Realistically it's Chelsea's title, sadly

Only 3pts behind us yeah, but 12pts behind Chelsea.

We are borderline. If it goes to 12pts it is over for us too I feel

Look mate, nobody gives a sheit about Arsenal. This is about the title race, and you have not only lost your shot but also bent over and took a load from Chelsea to boot.

Nobody has said we will finish above you, just that you are out of the title race. I am sure you will rally and finsih top 4 once there is not even a sliver of a chance of the title and you are back in your comfort zone.

Do yourself a favour and fack off
