Quiet on here without Owd Spart, eh? But it does give us a chance to speculate a bit and try to predict Derby's first team under the new regime.
We all know it's a simple game, but while the cat's away, feel free to talk formations, tactics etc. if you like.
For what it's worth, my shot at Plan A is:-
Carson
Baird Keogh Pearce Olsson
Johnson Hughes Bryson
Ince Nugent Vydra/Russell
Have fun.

3-5-2, it's the future. Back in the day they used to play 2-3-5 and I'm also tempted to bring that back, but maybe not just yet.

Formations FFS.
What's wrong with 9 men all chasing the ball in a gang plus a goalhanger in their penalty area?
It worked when we used to play on the park.

Did Spart ask you to act as his proxy, Scouse ?

What is GR's preferred formation at previous clubs?

Sounds like he's a pragmatist, not an idealogue.
So whatever suits his best 11.

I’m no expert on tactics, and I keep telling people that football is a simple, beautiful game made difficult by the bourgeoisie but I think we should start the game in a multi stakeholder cooperative formation and try and concentrate on functionality until the rest of the season.
As with most modern formations there’ll have to be a bit of tinkering.
Personally rather than have a big person at the top as we’ve relied on far too heavily for the last few seasons I’d like to see a more fluid formation, maybe if we have an AGM of members acting as the playmaker for the season, we’ll see a better balance in the team. Possibly at the expense of our regular Number 9 and 10 in the executive roles.
I think we’ve been expecting the big man at the top to bring everything else into play, but I know this is going to cause controversy, he hasn’t really done it ever for us in a Derby shirt, he struts around waiting for the ball to be played into his feet 2 yards from an open goal and then if the ball doesn’t find him he screams and shouts at everyone else rather than taking responsibility for making the space and working on his off the ball game, he’s also not the most intelligent player I’ve seen, so for me it’s bite the bullet, count our losses, drop him and start again.
I think in the cooperative formation we’d obviously lose the talismanic carthorse but I’m a big fan of playing a more total football game, where players can rotate positions, build from the ground up and entertain. We’ve tried to fit our misfits into too many traditional authoritarian footballing philosophies of late and I think if we adopted a more grass roots approach we might see some of those misfits pick up their game.
I think we’re going to lose ground in the short term playing this way, but in all honesty we’re going backwards not forwards as it is, I think lining up like this will really let us sort out the deadwood, strip us down to the core and go again from there in the summer.
The main weakness in this formation would be investment and the dictatorship of the fan base. The dictatorship bit I think we could get rid of if we have a ‘vote of no confidence’ clause where those elected to administrative positions are held accountable to the members at all times. Investment is a bit of a gamble, money in a democratic system has always looked a bit dodgy to me, but I think if we try it for the first 45-60 minutes, and it comes up short, then I’d just say balls to it and for the final third, just hand the whole club back to the supporters, pick the players that will play for the shirt not the wage slip, reduce ticket prices to zero, slap up a big screen outside the main entrance for those that can’t get a ticket and broadcast the game for free, live broadcasting also on Rams Internet TV for the exiles, supporters can band together to help the players and coaching staff and their families out with what they need in life (within reason) and then put our heads down, go back to basics, keep calm, take back the beautiful game and hit the opposition for a little full throttle 'our club’s freer than yours' football.
