Just heard that De Gea has made the most saves out of any Premier League keeper so far this season
He also has a pass completion rate of 80%, the highest in the league and quite frankly, amazing
Of course he's made some errors. Shoudlve saved Dzeko's long shot, West Brom's goal, shoudlve done better for Walcott's goal but that's really it.
But turns out, he's NOT had a disastrous start to his career and I think all will agree that hes improved on a gamely basis. David De Geeeeea!
David De Gea...not so bad afterall

He's had one less save than Freidel, but yeah he's up there. Weird though, that he's had to save so many shots. Keepers like Declan Rudd have only had to face 10, lol.

Thing is, De Gea isnt the best at saving long shots, thats been proven, but hes not bad as well.
Teams seem to think as long as they get a shot on target, it will go in as De Gea is hopeless. As a result, teams are shoooting from ridiculous distances and angles.
Unelss we're facing a team who have players who can actually shoot, I hope teams continue to shoot as they are effectively gifting us possession back

It doesn't concern me that he has had the most shots at him, it's all practice for him, so I say bring it on, shoot at him all they like, he'll only get better at stopping them

fair point
the counter argument is you're going to keep clean sheets more often than not so more shots from distance couldn't hurt even if he didn't have that reputation. If odds are you're not going to score anyway you might as well take a crack.

This whole long distance shots thing is misleading.
Could it not be that A Madrid stood off and let teams take shots? I saw lot of games last season and he just couldn't have saved some of them he had no chance.
Has nothing to do with being weak at long range shots cos he isn't weak he's actually great at saving shot.
His weak area is low shots cos his feet are not well positioned. Something he will learn.

Im with Benzeguero on this. Let other teams fall for "De Gea conceded the most goals from outside the 18 yard box in La Liga last season" and shoot from ridicules distances and angles where there is no chance of scoring. Let em shoot, trying to close them down at such distances could leave gaps in the defensive line.
I watched couple of Atlético Madrid matches last season. the pace de gea come of the line is truly amazing. I dont have stats but he must be one of the fastest goal keepers in the world. This allow us to play a higher up the pitch than we usually do. I think that is one reasons why SAF choose de gea over a established experience keeper like Stekelenburg(spelling).

His old Coach came out when he heard people were criticsing De Gae and said "there will be a feast of people eating their own words come the end of the season."

To be honest, about half of them were Van der Vaart's center circle shots...

does any one have the stats for last season
I.e. how many he let in outside the box and then how many the second placed keeper let in?
it just seems a ridiculous statistic as people have pointed out above it can be affected by a huge number of factors
the more games he plays the more confident he will become and the footwork and positioning will become more instinctive - the guy doesn't even have half of van der saars experience so theres bound to be areas for improvement

He let in 7 or 8.
Theres a youtube video showing all the goals he conceded from outside the 18 ayrd box last season. Tbf, over half of them no keeper wouldve saved
