How can a player like Torres who was no doubt one of the best strikers around not too long ago turn into the sulking whinging exspenive flop of today ?
Yeh I know he's been injured but come on, whats happened to the lad thats made him a shadow of the player he used to be, its very strange indeed.
Did Liverpool know something was not quite right or is it just down to the injury & a lack of confidence?

Torres lacks motivation, simple as that.

True. Ironically, the game away at Wolves

the most motivated we saw him was v Chelsea at home.
Nothing to do with Hodgson, that was all torres angling for the move.

I wonder if Fergie would have sorted him out?

I doubt it, not with the way he can't control the ball, fergie is about strategy and tactics, and taking good decisions and discipline

TOrres used to be my dream singning for Untied. I thought a Torres Rooney partnership wouldve been the best for in the world for a decade.
When he first came to Liverpool, he was exactly what I thought he was, quick, sharp, lethal in front of goal and also cpaable of scoring solo goals.
Since then hesone downhill. 1 in 22 games....seriously. Shevchenko managed 6 in 22.

Torres is a lone striker.
I had it out with other Liverpool supporters for years.
"Torres needs a partner". Absolute rubbish.
Torres is really only suited to a 4-2-3-1 in a possession based side that presses high up the pitch.
He has never been prolific for Spain and wasn't half the player at Athletico as well.
Benitez turned him into a 20+ a season striker because the system was based around his strengths.
his days as a world class striker started when he joined up with Rafa and eneded when Rafa left.
He can get it back but it would require a manager who favours tactics that suit him.

Ancelotti happened
Sick of people saying he was an Abramovic buy, Ray Wilkins has said as much on numerous occaisons. Ancelotti was a long term admirer and wanted him when he first arrived as Chelsea manager
That January Ancelotti was asked by Abramovic which striker he wanted, and replied get me Torres
To say he didn't use him well would be the understatement of the century. When he wasn't trying to get a fruitless partnership with Drogba going he was playing him out of position trying to accomodate him in unfamiliar formations and a much slower style of play
Carlo's horrific man management made things worse, AVB inherited a wrecj whose confdence was shot

Have to agree with KDL. Doubt Torres will get back to 2008 form.

What evidence is there that Carlo was horrific at man managing? The key players all loved him and considering some of the egos we have in the dressing room, they would be the first to kick up a fuss if they didn’t like him.
Tactically he didn’t get it right but even AVB tried and failed with the Drogba/Torres partnership and he is supposedly one of the most tactically astute managers in Europe

Have to say that Torres looked sharper yesterday. Okay he didn't score but he laid both on.
Which is saying something because in his final months at Liverpool he was as greedy as they come and felt he had to take whole teams on by himself.
Better from him.
