Strange indeed, has he been found out, has he lost a yard of pace, if you knew the reason for his dramatic dip in form you could be a very wealthy man, just by contacting Abramovitch with the answer.

Probably a mixture of confidence, Injury and defenders sussing him out. Remember his trick of slowing it down and then knocking it past defenders and sprinting it past them. Well it doesn't work anymore and he doesn't seem to have a plan B at the moment.

Perhaps he will do a Berbatov and be a bit of a late bloomer. However I would say Torres doesn't fit into yor team to well and it seems you already had a better player in Sturridge.

I've made several articles on this, I think Liverpool mgt know something, probably a secret medical report from the Doctors that after a while he will lose and powerand pace in his legs. They probably adviced Liverpool to sell as soon as possible.

The guy can't even take a decent shot or run fast anymore. We were duped.

Forgive me for asking but, why

I really hope AVB gives Sturridge lots of chances and sticks with him. He has a ton more potential than Walcott and an England line up of:

Sturridge--------------------Young

---------------Rooney--------------

could be pretty potant.

It's not that unusual. Many forward players rapidly decline in their late 20's either due to injuries or more often due to playing way too much football from a young age. Torres has played 10 full seasons and 9 full summers since in his professional career, crazy when you think he is only 27.

Kluivert, Owen, Ronaldinho, Fowler, Adriano, Kezman, Keane, Alan Smith are some players to mention from the top of my head of varying ability who rapidly declined within their 20's for one reason or another.

Torres has played more top level football than Drogba, yet Drogba is considered in the twilight of his career. It is simply the case that Torres is on the downward trajectory of his career. Players who have more to their game than just pace and finishing can have a very slow decline and continue on well in later years. Torres however needs his pace, without it he his confidence has plummeted, his touch is off, he is trying to do things which his attributes do not allow him to do (dropping deep to link up or trying to drible past players).

I'm afraid we will never see the best of Torres, if he manages to adjust we may see a half decent Torres, but unfortunately I doubt it.

So in the mean time what do we do with him

Well this is the big question. If it was me, I'd get rid.

I didn't want the move in the first place and predicted this would happen on the old 606.

The fact is, the way he plays right now, he is like playing with 10 men. I have no idea what we do with him in the mean time. The best place for him is the bench at the moment, for the sake of the team.

If he doesn't play he won't improve, when he does play the team are poor. lose, lose situation really.

How does that explain his equally dramatic decline in performances for Spain Stig?

posted on 13/9/11

@kdl exactly, couldn't have put it better myself. Maybe he should be used for easy games (don't know which is really easy since we seem to struggle against every team) or brought in second half after we have wrapped up the match. But again that will have a negative effect on his confidence and he may continue making negative comments and eventaully upset the coach and players

KDL....

to be honest mate we saw about 8-9 mnths of tghe sulking thing when it wasnt going his way. He blames people around him, In Nov last year Gerrard scored after being set up by him and ran right past him due to (apparently) a bust up when Gerrard told him he had to take responsibilty and not blame others.... deja vue or what??

What decline for spain ? .. even before he came chelsea he wasnt the most profilic goal scorer david villa got more goals in every tournament ... torres just got the important ones say the final or the ones where he was needed if villa got 6 torres got 3 .... in 6 games torres has 1 goal for spain .. he came off the bench for 2 of them and only 4 of them starts ... but i think at the time hes confidence was low and he was getting back from injury ...

a confident Torres playing this coming Sunday would be a worry so I cant complain.

I wonder if Chelsea were tempted to off load how much would they now would expect to get back, & who would be prepeared to take a chance on him?

KDL - Nothing Else Matas (U5539)

Couldnt agree more - he has been over played, maybe Rafa played him too much but the guy has never had a brake - Spain should never have taken him to S Africa, he wasn't fit- i think Spain should take some responsibility for it too

anyone think moving to the premiership was the worst choice he made? looks to me like coaches have been trying to bulk him up - he looks twice as wide as when he first arrived which seems to have affected his pace and acceleration. They have tried to turn him into an old fashioned english centre forward

posted on 13/9/11

If think if you are a centre forward who relies on pace then you aren't going to have a long career, Michael Owen is a prime example - he has kind of re-invented himself - but I'm not sure Torres is could enough to do that.

Exactly.
Although I don't think he will be a late bloomer. Sad as it is to say, when you are a striker who plays off the last man and begin to lack that sharpness you are pretty much done for. See Michael Owen. He can try and adapt his game, but to be honest he doesn't look like he has the strength, vision, touch to do so.

old fashioned English center forward

Interesting, hope Sturridge won't end up as an old fashioned English center forward too
