Rose & Our Wages

Following the Danny Rose 'revelation', the mantra that we are not paying our players enough is gathering even more steam. Personally, I'm disappointed with the manner in which Rose has vented, whether or not I feel he has a point. However, there are many calling for us to pay our players the wages of the top revenue generating clubs. This for me, would be financial suicide and short termism. We pay the 6th highest wages in the country, approximately £121 million a year (Liverpool who are 5th pay around £165). Now, the reason for me mentioning Liverpool is due to the fact that they receive roughly £100 million revenue than us, but justifiably pay the 5th highest wages, as they bring in the 5th most amount of money in the league. We only fall short of £40 million in difference in terms of wage spent, and guess what? We bring in the 6th most revenue, so logically we spend on wages according to our means. Once we have a new stadium and the finances reflect the new TV income and Champions League money, naturally our wage ceiling will rise and we will be able to pay more. We are certainly going in the right direction, we are one year away from having one of the best stadiums around which will compete with Arsenal's (2nd highest match day revenue in league), our training facility is second to none, and will improve further with the new player accommodation being currently constructed on it. I feel optimistic regarding our long term future as we are looking to sustain our growth in an organic fashion which without a sugar daddy is the best and ideal way to ensure our continued development both on and off the pitch.

but he signed the contract a year ago for 65k or whatever it is hengy!!!

if that wage is so unacceptable what is he doing penning such a long deal???

and he has been injured half the time since!!!!

now I agree with his general views....

1. we need to add quality to the squad.. we all know this
2. the wage structure is an issue and we need to move the whole thing upwards...

but the timing, the method, and the fact it was from rose and not one of the other "more credible" players, is a shame.

Anyone would signed that contract. It's a extra 20k or whatever for however long he's here but we all know it means fack all in terms of keeping him.

This summer has been a right mess from start to now.

I'm sure levy put off letting everyone know we signed the 3rd GK because it'll annoy everyone
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am fully used to it now, but in prior seasons I usually make articles in pre season showing my frustration at our general pre season schedule, transfer activity and general preparation for new seasons.

yet again spurs will be starting a season unprepared, it happens every single year.

it hasn't been helped by the injury situation, which considering we haven't kicked a competitive ball, is a joke, but still, we should have strengthened the squad by now.

rose is nowhere near our best player though..... hes not even essential. hes been injured for 6months and it didn't affect us one little bit. if anything we were better in the second half of the season
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah it begins, mate just like the rest of us you were moaning fiercely that Son played LWB in the semi final, yet had Rose been fit I doubt it would have been an issue as he'd have played instead. False to say we didn't miss him just because we won plenty of games

More credible?

He's been most people's pick as the best LB in the league for the last couple of years while playing for one of the best teams in the league as well as being an England regular. What more do you want in terms of credibility, the ballon d'or?

Being the best in his position in one of the best leagues in the world is more than credible enough for me. If he were more credible he'd be being tapped up and would probably go on strike to force a move.

He spoke his mind unlike the spineless rodents like Bale who down tools and feign injury to get away, and I happen to agree with most of what Rose said. Maybe he's already aired these concerns to the club prior and he's seen absolutely nothing in this window to address it which led him to this

“I am not playing football just for the fun of it. I want to win things. I have seen what’s been around in the last couple of months. I am over the moon considering what people’s opinions of me were three or four years ago.
When I am 34 or 35, I want to look back and see that I have won something. That is the next step for this team, and to do it we have to keep everyone for as long as possible".

That was back in January. Maybe the sale of Walker and the lack of signing tiggered this. Definitely not a knee-jerk reaction though..

The Walker sale was on the cards, everyone knew it. As a fan I didn't expect or even want us to try and sign £60m Morata or £50m Rodriguez or £50m Lacazette to try and build on runners-up spot, but I'd have expected a degree of intent from the club this summer. If we don't have the sums to compete with Barca etc then fine that's no problem, but then why aren't we all over the talent in those 15-30 mill brackets? The likes of which Dortmund and Atleti - comparable clubs to us in terms of their status within their leagues I'd say - are always finding and signing?

I worked out a list of players who have been sold this window that we could have signed for £30m or less:
Andre Silva
Tielemans
Calhanoglu
Vecino
Conti
Parades

Plus probably a whole host of others.

A selection it's highly unlikely he'd have made if Rose was fit, so to say we didn't miss him isn't entirely accurate

This is my point. None of them have joined Barca, Bayern or Real Madrid, so this myth that we have to wait for them to do their business and then pick up the scraps is bollox. I'd guess that the majority of them aren't on absurd wages either
