World Cup next year

Who can challenge France? Their team is stacked with superstars. I'm battling to think of any teams that could match them...

From a German view I think all nations including the british have their big egos.

I suppose that's just a part of what nationalism generallly involves.

That said though, not all people are equally arrogant, and I suppose that there may be varying levels of 'national arrogance' too.

I prefer the words arrogance, which is different to ego, but I think they're similar concepts in this case.

Germany, Spain, Brazil and more hopeful than actual reality, Argentina can challenge them.

I agree. France are being overrated. They have a lot of promising young players. But the the thing is they are all similar players when you look at it.

Overrated?!

--------------------------Lloris-----------------
Sidibe---------Varane------Kos-----------Mendy
-------------------Pogba-------Kante----------------------
Dembele----------Griezman----Mbappe--------Lemar

with a bench which would include the like of Rabbiot, Lacazette, Fekir, Tolisso, Umiti, etc..

Don't get me wrong, Deschamps can still feck this up but don't say the players are overrated.

Team basically stinks of overated.

Kos is a joke cb, Mendy after 2 games at city is being heralded as the best crosser in the world, pogba, mbappe(half a good season), dembele.

Not saying they are not good players but most are young and unproven, some are overrated.

These major tournaments are rarely won by very young teams. You generally need quite a few experienced heads to pull it off, and I don't see many in that France team.

Agree. Don't see any leaders in that team tbh,

Yep. Euro 2020 might be a better shout for them. If we're looking at talent and experience then Belgium are a good shout - if they can turn up at the tournament. Hazard, Lukaku, KDB and Courtois all with 50+ caps despite being no older than 26, then there's the very-experienced likes of Vertonghen, Dembele, Alderweireld as well as the young talent that is Tielemans

Belgium could, but they'll need to know what they're playing at first.

Haven't watched them in qualifying under Martínez, but at the Euros they looked to have gone a long way backwards under Wilmots.

Also, if they're much of a Martínez side, I imagine they could leak goals pretty easily against the big boys.

Yes Martinez is definitely the wildcard there. Would struggle to perform worse than Wilmots though as they severely flattered to deceive at both tournaments he took them to.

I thought they looked ok in Brazil until they went out with a whimper.

But on the other hand, it's was the same baffling litlessness I've seen of late in many a national team at big tournaments. The lack of enthusiasm, energy or urgency has been appalling. Makes you wonder whether a winter World Cup might not actually be a better spectacle for the fans.

Belgium's WC showing wasn't bad in 2014. A QF loss against an established team who were stronger then them on paper and good wins over tricky sides like Algeria and USA.
The last Euro's was a bigger disappointment for them. After a great performance against Hungary, they looked very short of ideas against a Welsh side that they should be beating.
