Leeds Utd v Ipswich Town Matchday Thread

It's back to League action this Saturday after the Tuesday night drama and heroics at Turf Moor, for me that Team could quite easily grace the pitch for this game, they certainly earned it but I expect TC will be resting a few of the Lads

Venue ...Elland Road...Date..23rd Sept.. Kick Off 15:00hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Leeds trio Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson and Matthew Pennington are all expected to return to contention for the home game against Ipswich.
Skipper Cooper (back) has been sidelined for two games, Jansson missed the midweek Carabao Cup win at Burnley with a hamstring strain and fellow defender Pennington (ankle) has been out since the opening-day win at Bolton.
Head coach Thomas Christiansen made wholesale changes at Turf Moor so the likes of goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, midfielders Eunan O'Kane and Samuel Saiz, plus striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga should all return to the starting XI.

Forward Caleb Ekuban, recovering from foot surgery, is the only absentee as Leeds bid to stay top of the table.

Ipswich Town
Ipswich will be without midfielder Flynn Downes because of a thigh problem.
Danish defender Jonas Knudsen should be available again having missed last weekend's win over Bolton.
Midfielder Luke Hyam has been carrying a troublesome knee problem, while defender Adam Webster is stepping up his recovery from an ankle injury.
Emyr Huws (Achilles), Teddy Bishop (hernia) and Tommy Smith (hamstring) continue their rehabilitation. Midfielder Andre Dozzell (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Opta stats
Leeds have lost one of their last eight home league games against Ipswich (W4 D3).
Ipswich have kept one clean sheet in their last eight league games against Leeds, a 1-0 win at Elland Road in the 2015/16 season.
Leeds have had eight different scorers in the Championship this season, more than any other side - though one of those players has since left the club (Chris Wood).
Ipswich have won five of their opening seven league matches in a season for the first time since the 2004/05 campaign - they went on to finish third that season, losing in the play-offs.
The Whites have kept a clean sheet in their opening four home league matches of a season for the first time since 2001/02 - they've never kept a clean sheet in their first five. Indeed, the only two goals they've conceded at Elland Road this season have been against League Two opposition in the League Cup (one each against Port Vale and Newport County).
Ipswich have gone behind in all three of their away league matches so far this season and recovered six points (W2 D0 L1), three more than any other side.

Quietly optimistic about this game, Ipswich will have to suffer a sell out crowd acting as the 12th Man while the Leeds Players seem to revel in the Elland Road atmosphere so i'm going for a 2-0 Win with Saiz and Lasogga getting a screamer each

We weren't second best. Deserved, but it was close.

It's not difficult.

Aside from the goals, Alisoki and Saiz had the two best chances of the game. Alisoki should have scored, and Saiz shoulsn't have taken a touch in the box allowing himself to be closed down.

We created better chances. A number of their shots were speculative from range.

Agree with sol

Think we just about deserve it

But if I was them, I'd have been disappointed not to get something

Today was a game between two top Championsip sides and it showed.

Ipswich are a game in hand away from being 2 points off the top spot. We did well today but imo we could have been out of sight at one point.

Agree with sol and liw (although more eloquently put than me) we edged it, that's me being as neutral as I can be

Saiz had two chances and both times he refused to use his left peg!

We just about deserved it but our lack of judgment allowed them back in at 3-1. We should have closed it down at that point.

Great second goal and what a pass from Nessy for the first!

Good to meet JLA and VOF!

Exactly. We were not second best. we deserved that victory. the goal of football is to get the ball in the net. not always the team that look dominating win the games. ie, Barcelona. How many times have they lost when they had 70 percent possesion and 20 strikes on goal to their opponents with 3 shots on goal etc. In the ned our defence were better than theirs as they conceded 3 and we only 2 and we could of had a fourth if Losagga didnt slip up.

Sorry for the delay, but my travels have been mind blowing since last Saturday.

Firstly, great to meet VOF, Phil and Harj before Brum, spent time with VOF and Harj again at this game, great to meet Sol and Stoopo, and Shako and Whitejock from Not606, also at this Ipswich game.

These are people I have got to know over many years, first on the old BBC 606 site and then the two successor sites.

The generosity, kindness and conaraderie with these fans and others (met Jonty and others, one of whom brought me some merch from the LUFC store, and a gift, when I had never even met him before, on that fateful Donny day at Wembley) has been amazing.

I also need to give a special mention to a fello fondly known as Wappy. In 2015, I was passing through London on the day that we were playing at Charlton. I pleaded for a ticket on this board. Highland put me in touch with Lancashire White. Lancashire connected me with Wappy who met me in a pub before the game with a ticket. Weeks later, we met again in New York and we have kept in touch on Facebook ever since. On Saturday, September 9, he picked me up at Heathrow and drove up with 3 other fans for the Burton game. A true gent!

It really gives "Marching on Together" a great deal of meaning.

THANK YOU LEEDS UNITED AND LEEDS FANS FOR SUCH AMAZING EXPERIENCES!

Unequivocally, you are THE best, really!

PS from the north corner of the West Sttand (D12), I thought we just deserved the win.
