Pardon My Ignorance....

I thought, after all this time I understood the offside law.

This is not meant as a "wind-up", but as a genuine request for knowledge.

Why was Lacazette not offside for Arsenal's goal?

Any enlightenment would be much appreciated.

What if...

There are two opposing players - the opposing player with the ball and the opposing player behind him.

The ref runs across to the box and the opposing player shoots and it hits the ref and deflects forward towards the other opposing player who is now ahead of the ref and assisting opposing player. He then shoots and scores.

Will the ref allow it?
---------------------------------------------------------------------I've never seen that happen, surprisingly but no, doubt it would be offside. The referee isn't playing for a team. Unless it's United of course.

We should have spent that £75m on another ref. Just to wind up Klopp even more.

Read this, it's a lot to take in, but I think 99% of us (including some professionals) aren't up to speed on the rulings. It's one of the hardest to fully appreciate in any sport:

I don't think it's hard at all. Of course they change it every few years but the fundamentals have remained the same for decades.

England will never win the World Cup with fans like this.

Further clarification (and I'm thinking of Liverpool v Spurs), you can't be offside from a throw in.

You can't be offside in your own half although I've seen it a couple years back in pl

You also can't be offside directly from a free-kick or corner.
