Quality on the pitch

With the world cup beckoning I was watching through a few old World Cup videos. Just amazes how much talent was on the football pitch at once, some of the best players ever. Hardly realised it was as momentous an occasion at the time though:

Because it was there for us to win, we had a largely very talented side out, and in the second half they offered absolutely nothing.

Us now is it? Thought you were Irish?

Bollox English all in all, Irish thing was a smokescreen for your argument as it suited it.

Not sure what England had to do with that discussion anyway. They certainly weren't in my list of teams !!

Yes, the English do not particularly like me cheering on the Irish
But that is one of the joys of football!

Anyway, back on topic, that defeat to Brazil was a tough one. That England team should have gone far, but never did. Germany in 96 was another bad one.

I can claim to be Irish, American or British depending on the point I want to argue

There does seem to be more genuine friendships, and more togetherness in the England squad among the current lot, especially the younger ones. When you listen to Lampard, Gerrard or Rio they all say how it used to be cliquey and how players from different clubs never really got used to one another.
