Saturday 6th January brings the 5th game in 15 days and a chance for some of the regular Wolves starters to take a seat and watch the ‘reserves’ once again take on a Premiership side.
Last season those ‘reserves’ got through their first two rounds of the FA Cup with away wins at Stoke and Liverpool before a creditable loss at home to Chelsea. This season, in the League Cup, an away win against Southampton and a wonderful performance against the awesome might of Manchester City proved once again that Wolves possess a strength in depth that most Championship squads can only dream of.
This time the lads welcome to Molineux, Swansea City in what is hoped to be the first game in a long awaited FA cup run for Wolves fans.
Swansea are struggling in the league this season and are currently bottom of the table. Having recently appointed Carlos Carvalhal as Manager and in need of new players, the January transfer window could be a busy time for the club. With their current situation it’s hard to see how the new Manager would prioritise an FA cup game and like Nuno it is expected that for this game he will be fielding second string and youth players.
Just one place below them, Wolves are enjoying the best season they have had for years.
Nuno Espirito Santo has instilled a style of play into his players, he has, with the help of ‘Super-Agent’ George Mendez, brought in young, talented players and is looking to bring in more during the current transfer window. Nuno, unlike Carlos Carvalhal will be keen to get a cup run going and although winning league promotion is unquestionably his priority, he will definitely set out his stall for a Wolves win. He has a full squad available to him with no injury concerns but with the exception of suspended Club Captain Danny Batth.
Expect to see the side that performed so well against Man City in October with the only change being Miranda replacing Batth.
Norris
Miranda- Coady-Hause
Bennett- N’Diaye-Price-Vinagre
Marshall- Enobakhare-Costa
One last point; Wolves No 2 keeper Will Norris has played in every cup game since joining the club and is yet to concede a goal. Will Swansea manage to beat him? The odds are against it!
Gem’s prediction: 2-0

This is definitely worth a read and is about Leigh Griffiths, a Scottish perspective.
