Been giving this another go over the weekend, first time I've played it. On the face of it, it seems like the kind of game I will enjoy and get into for some mindless fun when I've got an hour spare on my own.
But, it's fackin frustrating that there's nowhere to 'learn' other than jumping straight into the online Battle Royale mode. I haven't been able to learn to 'build' much yet, or at all, because I don't know how and I can't go around gathering materials without getting into battles, and as a new player I need to focus on trying to stay alive for long enough to figure out which guns are good, what I need to actually do and how to do it.
So far, it seems like the kind of game where people that can sit on it for 5 hours a day can become very, very good at and have a big advantage. Whereas for games like Fifa, I can pick it up once a week and still be a match for most online.
I've had 4 games, finished in the 20s, 30s, once in the 60s and managed a 6th place finish (in my second game) purely by luck I think that no one was near me, I only killed 3 people.
Anyone else been playing this, anyone managed to win?
Questions:
Are there any other game modes like a training arena, that I'm missing? Even if you need to buy it?
Do you need to begin from scratch gathering supplies to build walls and forts every game like you do with weapons, or should your materials carry over?
How do you change your character, or is it always randomly picked?

playing as a duo is a great way to tart and it doesn't matter if your not as good or better than your partner
stay on comms and talk a lot also cover each other's 6 and share your guns and supplies
you can easily over run an area in the first 3 minutes and have it all to yourself to loot and then decide on a best tactic to move towards the circle
you will be finishing in top 10 in most of the matches you play in next to no time but you will still get times where you land run into a house and stare a shotgun in the face and die before you have even took a breath

Haven’t even thought about using potions yet
Literally only concentrated on guns and trying to sneak around and shoot folk, and hide
How much do you need to smash with the axe at the start to get enough building materials to last a game?

I don't see it that way Mike. I tend to land on a roof smash thro it, smash my way out it. Tend to not use doors as this is were people tend to be aiming/looking. Traps etc. So I smash my way thro a couple roofs/ceilings/walls then tend to pick up materials off the folk that I kill. Smash into every attic in every house as there tends to be stuff or chests in them. I don't specifically try and get a set amount of materials

Did this last night, was looting a house after landing on the roof and hacking my way in and got into a gunfight with another team. Aimed shotgun at the nearest door, around head height and managed to take two guys out who ran in one after another.

Does any else find this game gets their ps4 very hot? Within seconds of starting the fans ramp up to fighter jet mode on mine......

It does that to mine too Simon. It could be worse though my mate is having a massive issue with one game on his PS4 at the moment. His daughter got Dead by Daylight and every so often it causes his PS4 to overheat and reset.

Damn that sucks big time. With headphones I don't even notice it. Has your friend cleaned his ps4?

He took it to bits and did a thorough cleanout back in October/November.
He has told me that hes just plans to let it run and replace it with another if it goes pop.
Back on topic though I just found out that to keep it fresh Fortnite resets the levels on multiplayer every so often. I havent played it enough to keep track as I share the account with my son so usually I ignore the fact that my character is dressed differently or can do the worm etc etc.
Do they reset or is it my young 'un talking rubbish
