I would say Kossy is better at reading the game and is definitely better at tackling. On the ball it's tough because Kossy is technically very good, has good vision and pretty much can make passes Mertesacker cannot. The problem with this is that because some of those passes are so adventurous they often end up with opposition getting the ball back. From what I've seen of Per he is very composed on the ball and won't give it away, and can keep possession very well with safe passes, etc. The sort of thing Denilson was slaughtered for!

I agree with most of this. To be fair though I think it is too early to say that Kos is better at tackling. They are both very good tacklers!

Chamakh my pitch up, Kossy is by far and away the best 1 on 1 tackler in our squad, possibly in England. I know there is more to tackling than just 1 on 1s but the way opposition teams seem to walk through our midfield I consider that aspect of his game very important to our team.

Kamran, TV for me is our best CB, then Kossy, Per, JD, Song, Miquel, Sagna, Ramsey, Chamakh, Wenger and Squillaci in that order.

Isn't it great that we are debating who our best second choice defender?
The fact is we now have three top defenders that all excel in different areas. This is what we have been missing for the last few seasons!

TBH I think my favorite CB will be Big Per after this season, we will see

vermaelen and koscielny should be our first choice. i like the look of mertesacker, as said above, he's a no-nonsense, play it safe defender. but i've been watching laurent a lot this season, and the guy makes interceptions that no-one else does. when balls are played (hehe) through, i'm sure the guy will be one on one with szcezsny. but kossy just comes in outta the blue and plays it calmly away. he's like a centre back version of hleb. (i know that sounds weird).
