He is quality.
I think the only reason he hasn't been rated higher is because he has quite a quiet feel about him.
Still doesn't change the fact that he is an absolute beast!
This year hes become more of a leader. I think thats the difference.
Hes actually quite similar to Vermaelen but right footed and taller
He is a fantastic techniqual defender in the mould of a less attacking version of the great Giacinto Facchetti.
But is main problem is that he seems to be clumsy as seen in the first half against Dortmund as he was giving the ball away.
But is One on One marking and tackling is the best in the league.
John quick question
What do you think about Toral and Bellerin?
I have heard alot of good things about Toral.
Hes 6ft 3 left footed very mobile playmaker. Apparently hes prerry special by all accounts.
Bellerin is rapid like a taller version of marc overmars
The problem is he makes too many rickets. If hes going to be really top class he has to cut out the silly mistakes
is toral a centre half? i'm asuming bellerin is a winger as you've compared him to marc.
I saw Bellerin against Turkey he was muy rapido.
Barcelona are upset about toral because he's 6ft3 . Having skilful players who are tall add even more to the team ie set pieces
Kos is a good player, still young & prone to mistakes, but in both games against Barca last season I thought he was outstanding. When TV returns, he will push Mertesacker for a place, which is the position we need to be in at CB.
Agree with you John

Care to explain how he's prone to mistakes?
Koscielny is our best centre back. Him and Vermaelen will be our first choice centre back pairing.
Here's the thing-he isn't prone to mistakes. Pundits and "experts" say that on the basis of a farcial red card against Liverpool and the CC final muck up (funny thing is it's actually no worse than what these pundits praise the likes of Vidic and CArragher for doing )
Don't agree, Mertesacker will be paired with TV if both fit & available. Mistakes - first Man U goal at OT?

Lol, the first goal was clearly Djourou's fault. Hahahaha are you being serious?
Yes, and i don't see him being 1st choice ahead of Mertesacker; I'm slightly amazed at the comments on this thread, considering what some gooners were posting about Kos last season, not much of which was complimentary. As I said I think he is a very good player, but he is young & Mertesacker is a proven world class CB, so for me he is ahead of Kos in the pecking order.

That was quite clearly Djourou's fault. Kozza couldn't come across on time. Djourou should've dealt with it.
And Koscielny is better than Mertesacker AND Vermaelen in most departments. He's an unbelievable tackler (the best one on one tackler I've ever seen), he reads the game brilliantly, he his passing is sublime, his positioning is immense and his good in the air.
Koscielny is better than Vermaelen. And definitely Mertesacker.

Lol, you're not making sense mate. He hardly ever makes mistakes. You obviously don't watch many Arsenal games. If you're trying to prove something, you need to have facts and evidence to support you.
Koscielny has made less mistakes than Vidic over the past year, that I can assure you of.

Kamran are we talking about the same player? While accepting that Djourou was prime suspect for the 1st goal, both of them made mistakes in that game, not deciding whether to play off side or not. He is a very good player (as I've said for the 3rd time!) but he isn't as good a player as TV or Mertesacker IMO.
If we hadn't bought Mert, how many Gooners and outsiders would be saying that we should have bought a CB?
Credit where credits due, but having shipped goals like we have already this season, I don't think any Arsenal defender can hold their head too high at the moment.

Yes, we're talking about the same player. And what mistakes did Kozza make in that game? Please enlighten me.
And why is he not better than Vermaelen? He IS bettee than Vermaelen in every department bar leadership skills. People won't take their tongues out of Vermaelen's backside because he chipped in with a few goals in his first season for us, but the fact is he's made more mistakes for us than Koscielny has. I won't even bother telling you why he's better Mertesacker. You'd be better off comparing Mertesacker to Djourou

Almost everyone, but that's hardly the point.

You have to understand, that game at Old Trafford was a once in a life time event, it won't ever happen again. What did you expect Kozza to do when he was surrounded by clowns like Jenkinson and Traore?
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-koscielny-can-get-better-and-better
Mertesacker is the German vice-captain, has 60 odd caps for his country, and is generally recognised as being a world class CB. When people talk about leaders on the pitch, it is these type of players they are talking about.
Yes TV pitched in with a few goals, but he's not there to score goals, and his leadership on the pitch manifests itself in his style of play, he is aggressive in the air & on the floor.
I hope you are right that OT was a one-off, but are you seriously saying that Kos had an error free game, where he displayed all the attributes you described in an earlier post??

Look, I'm not saying Mertesacker is a bad player, because he's not. He's a good CB who can still improve, but just because he has 70 something caps for Germany, it doesn't automatically make him better than Koscielny. Kozza was literally unknown at the start of last season, but he's worked his way up and he's now on the verge of being a French international. You have to remember that just a few seasons ago Kozza was playing his football in the second tier of French football. It's a big step up for him and he's improving every day.

I know it's not his job to score goals, but people are praising his defensive abilities because he scores goals, that doesn't make sense. Don't get me wrong, I love Vermaelen as well, but imo Koscielny is a more complete defender. I'd say Vermaelen is a better leader than Kozza, but that's about it.

I'm always right, even when I'm wrong. And no, Kozza didn't have his best game at Old Trafford, but he wasn't at fault for any of the goals.
