Charlton, in common with a lot of London clubs have a fair-minded following and over the years I have enjoyed reading their take through on-line blogs on the current state of their club’s fortunes. And they have suffered badly at the hands of unsympathetic owners who seem to have used the club for their selfish ends. And now a fresh takeover is almost imminent with the uncertainty that that brings.
I saw the first match and apart from their goal and the player who scored it (Fosu, who hasn’t scored since), it was pretty even. They seem to have a fairly young squad and have an experienced and adventurous manager who stayed loyal to MK Dons for many years. So the potential is there even though they may not be catching the headlines.
Their recent away record is better than at home and notably they held Wigan to 0-0, yet had lost 3 in a row prior to that. Earlier they had beaten Bradford City, yet lost to Blackpool and Southend, but last time out they came away from Bury 1-0 winners. They sit just below the Play-off positions.
Our new defenders should have bedded in now and perhaps McCullough will start. We now have quite a few options up front and combinations can be varied through substitutions with hopefully a winning one found. Copps turns 500 games tomorrow and few would dispute that he is still well worth his place.
It is time we got back to winning ways and I am going for 2-0 (Beestin if he starts, otherwise Marquis) and 8000.

Sorry chaps - can't agree about Lawlor being in any way culpable for their goal. The corner landed plumb on their centre half's head and he banged it down into the ground then up over the goalie. Gordon Banks might have saved it had he not retired years ago. You might reasonably ask who should have been marking their CB. After Blair's error when their player was running in on goal Lawlor came out to narrow the angle, which was pretty much all he could do. Fortunately it gave the CB enough time to get back, slide in and take the ball off the goal-line. All credit to Beestin for 90 mins of effort but Lawlor should have got MoM. McCullough has always been a class act and, for me, is far better in the middle than either Whiteman or Houghton. Neither did well today.

Blair moved to RB about halfway through the first half and the versatile Mason went to LB to allow Rowe to go to his natural position.
I cant understand why DF set up with Blair CMid instead of how he eventually changed it to.
Who was picking up the CH when he headed home?
It was Anderson and he had his head in his hands afterwards, he knew it was his man who had scored.
He more than made up for it though with that goal saving challenge late on though.
To apportion any hint of blame on Lawlor for letting the player round him though is ridiculous.
Were Charlton a poor team?
I don’t think so, they were streets ahead of us on the day and the way their wide players went past our midfielders and defenders was very impressive.
They will be gutted not to have won the game.

Thanks hound.
Not sure when my next game will be.
Think we will stay up even tho our normal end of season form is usually shocking.

First, from the extended highlights for the Rovers the footballing talent of Beestin shines through the gloom of the performance in general. Apart from his general skill, he actually wins the ball back in the opponents’ half.
That apart, how can a team that moves so fluidly and passes the ball so well so often when on the attack fail so miserably to defend? Legs were waved in the general direction of the speeding Charlton attackers as they hared past successive defenders, none of whom made more than a token effort to stop them with a meaningful tackle. When under attack, they often seem to mill around in numbers but lack understanding of each other’s roles. On one occasion Lawlor collided with Rowe as the ball was centred with Rowe getting his foot to it to send it over the bar. Lawlor should surely have called and it epitomises the lack of organisation.
I repeated the iFollow commentators criticism of Lawlor for their goal and having seen it, it does seem forgivable and again defenders, despite outnumbering attackers and massed in the vicinity seem anywhere except where they can be effective.
Top Predictor this time is Selby with everything right except Blair whose goal was well taken, despite having a rather poor game as a whole. Get well soon Micky, although if the US bug is similar to the one going around here it'll hang around for weeks; you think you've got over it and then it comes back again!
So on to Wallsall and plenty to work on.
