Jamie Carragher has been suspended by Sky Sports as a pundit:

I'm glad about this. Spitting is a filthy habit on the field around other professionals, but around fans and especially when you hit a child, it's simply inexcusable. I don't care what the level of goading was, his actions were disgusting and I'm glad Sky have thrown the book at him.
He's an ex player, he should have thicker skin that he's shown here.
Good!

Spitting is counted as common assault, I'd have more respect for someone who punched me than spat at me. It was low level banter not abuse, Carragher obviously flipped out and had some rage episode because he would have seen the guy filming anyway. Also the dad shouldn't be using his phone but people talking about putting his daughter in danger, they were crawling in heavy traffic

The dad wasn't rude or abusive it was friendly banter, I'm not usually in favour of calling for people to lose their jobs because of public outrage but spitting is basically on a par with punching someone. I feel for him but he facked up badly and should get sacked.

How is it on par with punching someone? Like I get that you shouldn’t spit on someone and it’s disgusting, but I don’t understand why an apology, public embarrassment and some teasing from Gary Neville isn’t sufficient here. Losing a job for this is just insane to me.

The reasoning he should keep his job is that it's out of character and he's really sorry but that shouldn't make a difference, if someone was racist or some other kind of abuse or violence it wouldn't matter how out of character or sorry they were. Spitting is one of the lowest things, having someone's gob on you is nasty and just a coward thing to do. If he keeps his job I won't be annoyed or anything but it's a lot worse than what Keys and Gray got sacked for.

But spitting isn’t on par with racism or abuse or violence.... its much less worse. Yes It’s disgusting, cowardly maybe as well, but Its totally harmless in the end of the day.

If that spit had landed in her eyes it could have blinded her.

If every player who spits, or blows his nose, on the pitch during a game was fired then there would be a lot fewer players.
Nasty and disgusting action on Carragher's part, but who really knows what type of conduct was directed toward him? And he did apologize didn't he.

The whole episode wasnt filmed. I have seen nothing disputing that he shouted 4 separate times at Carragher but only the last of the four was shown in the filming of it. He had already been winding Carragher up before they started filming and we have no way of knowing what was said. What we do know is it was bad enough to push Carragher to spit at them.

Given his fulsome apology I don't think he should be sacked - he's been suspended and shamed and I think that's enough - even the family involved think it's enough.
