Rangers - Looking forward.

As we approach crunch time this season in a tight 3-way race for second having only a month or so ago blown a chance to get into a genuine title race the mind wanders onto how we plan toprogress next season.

The Manager.
I was a big supporter of Murty and he's been a good character to have at the helm and steadied the ship but gradually he's wound me up by his inability to change things on the pitch, he makes subs far too late when its obvious to me they have been needed much sooner, the tactics are pretty one dimensional and unfortunately ultimately the job is too big for our fantastic youth coach.

Who Next?
Steve Clarke - Pragmatism should be the order of the day at Rangers, this was what Walter's Rangers were built on so in that vein we have to look at Steve Clarke who has shown at Killie his ability to get the most out of a limited squad and importantly he sets them up very well and adapts to the opposition. The big question remains, is he in any way shape or form a Celtic man? If that is a yes, that would rule him out.

Frank De Boer - Out of work ex-Ranger. Not for me, I don't buy into the total football philosophy of his for a league like ours.

Options are thin on the ground, what suggestions for a new manager would you make?

The Team

Goalkeeper
We are sorted for our 1st choice keeper in Wes, the best in Scotland. Robbie McCrorie has been getting rave reviews on loan so maybe an opportunity to move up the pecking order for him.

Full Backs
Well covered at LB for next season with John and Wallace. Tavernier remains a stick on for RB but Hodson will need replaced, he's not good enough to keep even as cover.

Centre Backs
Our problem area of the park. Bates must be given a new contract and would be extremely surprised if he wasn't and McCrorie should be 1st choice in there, he offers us mobility and aggression the others do not as well as being comfortable on the ball.
Martin's loan will end and we should not be discussing any further deal, he's been a liability. Alves will have a year left but should move on in the summer, it hasn't worked for either party.
Cardoso is still young and has shown enough potential for me to think he should stay for another season unless we can recoup his full fee.
We will need 2 new CB's in for next season.

Centre Midfield
Goss is unlikely to return according to Holloway which is a shame as he's one of the better forward thinking midfielders. Halliday should be moved on as should Jason Holt, they've had there chance now and not been up to it. Rossiter is a permacrock, if he's fit long enough we must move him on if we get the chance.

Jack i'm still not totally sold on, I would keep him around next season as he's the best defensive option of our midfielders. Docherty needs to continue to play and see if he can kick on. Dorrans has been utilised as a centre midfielder usually the deepest option which is complete madness in my eyes, he's a best as a 10 or off the wing. I would move him into the 10 spot to compete with Windass.
We need two new CM's.

Wingers
Jamie Murphy is our go to man, his loan deal will become permanent this summer and he's virtually guaranteed to be our 1st choice LW. Joe Dodoo is cover for him and I would like to see him get a few more minutes as his goals to mins ratio is impressive. Forrester will return from loan and should be sold, let go if necessary.

On the right Candeias is the first choice but I would like us to get another quality option to allow us to change things, a player that can beat a man and score rather than an old school winger like Candieas. O'Halloran should be moved on, Dalcio will leave having came seen and conquered.

No10
Who knows if we will even play with this system next season but if we do I would like it to be changed up, Windass is a good player to have in our squad and has a knack for goals but his all round game is lacking, I would like to see Dorrans as the first choice 10 if we continue down this route. Pena hopefully goes back to Mexico permanently one way or another.

Forwards.
Kenny Miller's contract comes to an end and surely won't be up for renewal. Still time for one final OF goal though
Herrera hangs like a millstone round our necks, will someone please take him, please.
Cummings, I would like to see made a permanent deal and would love to see him for us playing with a partner. Morelos will stay and continue to develop but if anyone is mad enough to offer 7m+ again we need to see sense and take it.
Hardie fresh from ripping up the Championship deserves a spot in our squad and rumours of going back for Moult please me especially if he's taking Herrera's space.

We need 7 new players a RB, 2 CB's, 2 CM's, RW with some flair ideally and a FW this summer.

Outs
Hodson
Alves
Martin
Rossiter
Holt
Halliday
Goss
Forrester
Pena
Dalcio
O'Halloran
Miller
Herrera

So who should be in charge? Who should be sold/let go? Kept? Bought?

I think you’re the only bear with a modicum of intelligence on these boards and it’s better off for it. 👍

Our perfect no10, would be and we already have him is is Morelos.

The boys link up play is fantastic and he can pass, I also think it would help him in his composure to play slightly further back.

So yes keep Morelos and sign a consistent goal scorer

No offence but that is possibly the most ridiculous suggestion I've ever read on here.

That guy is never a number ten...some bears don't even think he's your best goal scorer any more.

McCann...you need to come home. You've clearly spend too much time in the land of Soccer.

Compliments in taking the time and effort to write your article. I agree with all you say. As a Gers fan for over 60 years and someone familiar with the Board, nothing much will change until King and his chancers leave the Board and we have an owner who invests in the club in a professional manner. We simply do not have the money, even getting something for the 13 players leaving , to get a good manager, his huge & expensive back room staff and the kind of transfer funds that he would want. The only name that would interest me in the last 6 months has been van Bronckhorst and even he is probably too expensive so we are probably left with Mutry for a year and the normal loanees looking to finish 2nd to 4th maybe with a Cup thrown in, until someone buys out King.
