I think Wenger's announcement of his resignation at the end of the season was incredibly shrewdly timed.
The board love him, the players seem to have great respect for him, and while he is a divisive figure among the fans not a single one of them can deny his accomplishments and abilities. Ergo he will be missed, even by WengerOut converts like me. I had only supported Arsenal for a year or so by the time he took over, when I was 11, so his tenure is really all I know.
He will be missed, whether you wanted him to leave or not, and making the announcement now with the Europa League latter stages looming is the perfect time. There would be no better way to get the fans and players behind him 100 percent, and with a measure of restoration to his waning legacy with another trophy, there will be no better way for him to bow out if he wins.
So good luck to him and the club, and let's all rally behind him one last time, for old time's sake!

His legacy is safe, and with time people will focus less and less on the recent years and more on the glory period.

Remember, though, that a legacy is what you leave and pass on. At the moment that isn't much. His history is guaranteed and very much golden - at the moment his legacy is not so much.

True but SAF didn't leave such a good legacy at man utd, and he's still generally held in high esteem at Utd

Nah DJ is right. The hate and vitriol was just aimed at Wenger because he refused to step down when it became clear he couldn't turn it around. The love-in with Wenger was always going to return when he would announce his departure. His legacy was never is serious question

SAF spent so little but averaged 86.5 points per season over his last 8 seasons in charge. He left us with so much money for new managers to spend but we messed it up league wise.

The stadium, the increased spending power, players of the calibre of Ozil and Aubameyang, the 3 league titles, the 7 FA Cups, the memories.
His legacy is safe.

People won't look at it too negatively. The fans will remember the pain in past few seasons of regression, but other non Arsenal fans in particular will look at the FA cup wins since 2014.
But overall the Arsenal fans will remember him in a positive light. League titles, FA cup, only CL final (wish he'd won that) and more importantly the stadium
