What I Already Knew / New Lessons Learned

I already knew that….

• Davies is an average left back (although some Spurs fans seem to rate him highly).

• Trippier is an average right back and is nowhere near Walker’s class.

• As a consequence of the above two bullet points, we have regressed as a team.

• Alderweireld is one of the best central defenders in the league and he should have been selected on Saturday even though he might leave in the summer. Most Spurs fans on here have been saying that Vorm will leave in the summer, but yet he was picked on Saturday, so where’s the consistency?

• Son can have great moments/games, but yet he is still prone to having extremely ineffective games too and he needs to be substituted much earlier when he’s clearly having a ‘mare.

New Lessons I Have Learned….

• That despite the enormity of the game, Poch could deliberately choose not to play his strongest team.

• As great as Poch is (and his coaching staff) it would probably be a good idea for Poch to recruit another top assistant coach to help him, particularly with the big games.

During his extremely successful reign, Alex Ferguson regularly changed his Assistant Coach and that seemed to freshen things up, introduced new tactical knowhow and maintained their success.

• I’m starting to think for the first time that maybe (just maybe) the doom mongers could be right and we will start to lose our best players over the next couple of seasons due to the wage structure but, equally importantly, due to our apparent inability to win a trophy. This can be avoided, but it will need good recruitment in the summer and for Poch to improve the technical coaching staff around him.

What work do Spurs need to do in the summer to kick on again?

Big summer for Levy coming up. Is he going to let us down again?

From what i gather from posts on here you need.

A new top goalkeeper.
A new contract for Alderweireld or a replacement.
Danny Rose to find his form of last season or a replacement.
A new RB (would need to shift either Aurier or Trippier)
A new central midfielder.
A left wing option.
A new striker.

Potentially between 5-7 new players mostly with experience and know-how to help you deal with the big games at crunch times or is that too drastic?

I have sadly come to the conclusion that this Spurs team will not be winning anything, and the manager is not a winner. Where this takes us who knows, but the confidence of the players will be at an all time low I suspect, which could put even making top four in great jeopardy.

Changes in the summer definitely need making. Four years this team has been in the making, and it has peaked now in my opinion, with nothing to show for it. Not going to get any better. Already the defence is breaking up.

Sandy, only a few weeks ago you were saying the trophies will come sooner or later. Now you're saying we're doomed

Yeh well I was trying to be optimistic, and to be fair they were playing well, but this Spurs team always let us down, so I have now come to only one conclusion, they are never going to win SFA.

This current team have a way of going from absolute brilliance to absolute rubbish in the space of such a short time.

goalkeeping situation needs a long hard look at, and the lot of them need to be upgraded tbh

@RonaldVilliers (U21490)

(1) A new top goalkeeper - definitely need a keeper to replace Vorm, but realistically Lloris is good enough for now.

(2) A new contract for Alderweireld or a replacement - definitely. The former should be top priority but seems unlikely now.

(3) Danny Rose to find his form of last season or a replacement - definitely. The latter seems much more likely. Would rather Spurs got some decent cash for Rose and scouted out a top class replacement.

(4) A new RB (would need to shift either Aurier or Trippier) - top priority. Hopefully Aurier will improve for a proper pre-season but Trippier is just not good enough.

(5) A new central midfielder - second highest priority. A ball player who takes the ball forwards.

(6) A left wing option - not so much. Well stocked here.

(7) A new striker - probably best to get a forward who can play up top or in the 3 behind. Probably already got that in Lucas.

I'd say 4 players are NEEDED (centre half, right wing back, left wing back, central midfielder). If Walker-Peters steps up, then between Aurier and him that's probably enough at RWB without needing to invest. Left wing back and centre mid are non-negotiable, though.

Haak

Pretty spot on, even though I have some blind faith in Danny Rose.

I always felt this would happen. Not necessarily all at once or en masse but when it’s generally accepted, or we as a club are touting our players as one of the best in the world in their position, demanding massive fees but paying them wages that don’t correlate to that (eg Walker was probably earning a wage with us that Cashley got upset about in 2006) then it’s understandable. Speaking of Walker, the proof is in the pudding as far as he’s concerned.

We don`t know how to mix it with teams that are experts at gamesmanship, we usually start out the better side and play the better football but we are then all too easily knocked off our stride by the dirty tactics of our opponents.

Add to that, more often than not we will have a weak poor referee, who will let certain teams get away with their shenanigans simply because of who they are and who manages them.

For eg. Juventus are masters at it, Mourinho`s teams always do it, Chelsea are also experts at it, we have lost to all three of these this season. I accept we can do nothing about referees, we just have to pray we get a good one, but we have to learn to be more streetwise in the big games.
