werent quite a few fans saying Lloris has had a slump in form recently?

a few even suggested Vorm should maybe play.

and yeah, Fergie did change his staff, but Poch has only been there 4 years, Fergie didnt change them that often.

It felt like a watershed moment on Saturday.

The team needs more mental strength, top class experience and for Poch to understand the importance of winning a trophy even if it's not the CL or Prem.

"• I’m starting to think for the first time that maybe (just maybe) the doom mongers could be right and we will start to lose our best players over the next couple of seasons due to the wage structure but, equally importantly, due to our apparent inability to win a trophy."

A few months ago I was adamant that this wouldn't happen, but I'm actually starting to think it might happen too

You play your best players even if they are leaving in the next window. We had the same issue with Coutinho and Can but still played them and no hard feelings.

Appears that Spurs are hiding behind excuse of not playing your strongest team. Well that was your first XI for the past few months bar Lloris. Alderweireld has hardly played any football for months therefore why would you start him in one of your biggest games of the season. Fact is Spurs aren't as good as their fans believe they are and as a football club you are mentally weak

What was the reason(s) Pochettino gave for playing Vorm and not Lloris?

The 'Poch playing down the importance of the FA Cup' mindset should have been shattered the moment we saw him celebrate our goal like that.
He was right in saying win it wont suddenly make us challengers in the PL/CL.

As for brining in a new Number 2..for the big games....what version of reality are we working from here?

Perhaps I didn't word it properly. I didn't mean bring in another coach "just for the big games". I meant bring in another coach to improve the technical knowhow and that hopefully this would also help us in the big games (as well as other games).

I said before the game that if Poch didn't select Toby and we won he would get away with it but if we lost it would be the first time that some fans really started to question his judgement. The contract situation should be irrelevant, we are his current employers and if fit he should be playing. If Poch thinks that Sanchez (who I like alot) is better than Toby then he deserves to be criticised

On the keeper issue neither Vorm or Hugo are good enough and both should leave.

What Tottenham have is a significant mental block when it comes down to the crux moments in the league or in cups. So even though winning the FA Cup won't help you much for PL/CL it does gives the club the confidence that they can achieve that extra step of winning bigger trophies, especially if the football team has everything in place to achieve the higher goals.

What Pochettino has continually done is down play the role of the cups. Now whether that to shift the pressure away from the team or whether he genuinely feels trophies outside the big two are irrelevant, i don't know.

But when your club hasn't so much as won a scout badge in 10 years, then those ramblings of his look like excuses to hide a bigger defect.

Am I the only one that thinks we would have still lost with Toby and Lloris playing? I mean we had enough good players playing didn't we?

I agree, it was less down to the team selection imo than it was their mentality.

Same v Juventus.

Its more down to the fact that our pace & width comes from FBs (who are now slow and not very attacking) and deep-lying creativity comes from the CBs and Alderweirled wasnt playing.

Op

I have sadly come to the conclusion that this Spurs team will not be winning anything, and the manager is not a winner. Where this takes us who knows, but the confidence of the players will be at an all time low I suspect, which could put even making top four in great jeopardy.

Changes in the summer definitely need making. Four years this team has been in the making, and it has peaked now in my opinion, with nothing to show for it. Not going to get any better. Already the defence is breaking up.

Agree with the OP that Davies and Trippier are average wingers
I know Loris has made mistakes recently but he should have started ahead of Vorm in an important game like this. Also would have definately selected Toby for this game even though he will be leaving in summer.

Missed Opportunity!!

Sandy, only a few weeks ago you were saying the trophies will come sooner or later. Now you're saying we're doomed

I have a bad feeling we are going to lose Eriksen this summer, and I don't blame him either.

Without Eriksen we are awful and have no creativity, everything goes through him. Forget Dele, Son, Kane etc Eriksen leaving will be the one that hurts us the most.

Big summer for Levy coming up. Is he going to let us down again?

From what i gather from posts on here you need.

A new top goalkeeper.
A new contract for Alderweireld or a replacement.
Danny Rose to find his form of last season or a replacement.
A new RB (would need to shift either Aurier or Trippier)
A new central midfielder.
A left wing option.
A new striker.

Potentially between 5-7 new players mostly with experience and know-how to help you deal with the big games at crunch times or is that too drastic?

Yeh well I was trying to be optimistic, and to be fair they were playing well, but this Spurs team always let us down, so I have now come to only one conclusion, they are never going to win SFA.

This current team have a way of going from absolute brilliance to absolute rubbish in the space of such a short time.
