‘Deal agreed’ for Milinkovic-Savic

Apparently an £80 million pound deal has been agreed to bring Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to United this summer.

Relax guys, he’s not 57 years old which apparently is all we go for these days. He’s 23 and very well thought of by the football hipsters out there.

I haven’t seen him play but here is a blurb on what he’s all about....

Sergej has been nicknamed “Sergente" in Italy and it’s easy to see why. At 6ft 4in, he is an imposing figure in midfield who has won more aerial duels (190) than any other player in Serie A since the start of last season. He is an incredibly versatile performer, who is adept as one of the three midfielders in a 4-3-3 formation or behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1.

When played further up the pitch, Milinkovic-Savic can threaten opponents with his accurate long shots. He has scored five league goals this season and three of them have been struck outside the 18-yard box – making him more prolific from range than any Manchester United player this season. In fact, Kevin de Bruyne is the only Premier League player with more goals from outside of the box (four) than Milinkovic-Savic. His returns of 1.5 key passes and 1.9 successful dribbles per game this season are also impressive – and he has been fouled on average 1.3 times per game, which shows opponents struggle to stop him once he gets going.

Milinkovic-Savic is also effective when sitting a little deeper – he is averaging 2.4 tackles per league game this season, a figure only ballwinner Lucas Leiva (2.9) can better at Lazio – but he is at his best when given the box-to-box role in a 4-3-3 formation. Simone Inzaghi has found the ideal setup to maximise his defensive and offensive talents at Lazio, where he plays alongside Lucas and Luis Alberto.

Since that blurb was written he’s scored 13 goals and had 9 assists this season. Plays alongside Matic for Serbia so already has an understanding with one of our players and sounds a very promising talent. If this does go through hopefully it’s a decent step forward in improving our CM.

Thing is though that you're the one going on like you've watched a lot of him. I'd say you've seen as much as us, very little.

We were going off what was in the article in the OP. Regardless of where it was published I would hope the author has seen more of Savic than we have.

But you were quick to jump and talk absolute speculative dung that this obviously means Pogba is on his way. And then slabber about City and there players. Doesn't work like that.

Maybe Jose sees Savic as someone who can add to United's attacking game while at the same time providing some defensive foil when needed. It's all speculation, and that's all we are doing. You have been the One to come in making the sweeping declarations.

Or you could be reading into something that might not be true. Both the club and agent have said there's been no contact. This came from the Sun which says it all.

I think if we do sign him for £80m then Paul Pogba is going. That's my feeling from watching him play and also how I know Jose operates.

We could very easily end up with someone.else too like.i said. He's not the only player we've been linked with. Not by far.

Nobody is claiming that the report we had agreed a fee was true. My God, Robb even said, "apparently" in his article.

You're doing a TOOR and changing what your arguing about when you realised you were talking dung. Have fun with that.

The clue is in the description of the role, ‘box to box’, meaning they are in the opponents box often so will have opportunities to score. Maybe he’s a good finisher but also has a great engine and can get stuck in defensively too meaning he can operate the b2b role and get goals.

As none of us have seen much of this guy and basing it off an article from the sun, there isn't much to argue over other than no one having an actual clue on how he plays. I have read that he initially started as a Cm but has been more of an ACM this season. But these are just things I've read I've not watched him. And YouTube scouting isn't any better.

Thomas Partey of Atletico is who I think could be somebody we look at. Robust midfielder with great engine and be dubbed the new Essien. Seems like the perfect Jose player to me.

I genuinely feel that's the type of player that will get the best out of Pogba personally.

I'm a big fan of Pogba, and I don't think we have used him as effectively as we could have since he's been here. Even so, he's inconsistent and not at the top level yet.

So to sign a load of "robust" midfielders to simply get the best out of him is, at best, risky. At worst stupid. As it is, our midfield looks flat and devoid of ideas when he has an off-day (which happens all to often even when he plays in a 3). Or when he is out injured - see our drop in performances from September to November.

So no, I think a box-to-box midfielder who carries an attacking threat is exactly what we need. And it definitely shouldn't mean the end of Pogba.

Wasn’t Vidal a high scoring b2b who played well with Pogba?

No, you can’t score goals if you have spent anytime in your own half. That’s some kind of rule apparently
